As I have read the posts on numerous boards over the past few months it appears that the rattles are more a function of installation than the actual HK hardware. If placing foam inside the doors solves the problem isnt this a BMW rattle and not a HK rattle? Correct me if I am wrong!
Although I can't really answer your question, it is most certainly a BMW problem. If the hardware is deficient, them BMW should find another vendor. If the HK hardware is good, then the installation is faulty. The fact that there is a "fix" suggests that BMW hasn't figured out how to properly install the HK. Perhaps they just didn't want to retool their lines. In any event, there is a fix which your dealer is capable of performing.

My wife drives a 99 Saab 9-5 and the HK in it is simply the best "stock" am/fm/cd I have heard in a car. Mine is pretty good, but usually the facts are that the automaker tells the vendors what they want and are willing to pay for it and the vendor supplies to the clients spec's. I love my bimmer, but it seems that HK is getting a bad rap that they do not deserve as a result of BMW lack of attention to detail in these cases. But I havent had one rattle in my 02, but then again I aint "crankin it' either.
