I need the location of the engine serial # for my 1973 CSL (E9). I am auctioning the car TOMORROW and need to authenticate the engine. ANY HELP would be appreciated!

calm down. On my 2002, the VIN is on the steering column.

On the engine right in the middle of the of the engine bay. HARD to read. it's stamped on the engine itself, no plate... on a 2002 Tii (http://www.bmw2002faq.com/talkshop/forum/messages/61882.html), more on 2002 VINs (http://www.bmw2002faq.com/talkshop/forum/messages/89543.html), and from the original 1969 BMW 1600/2002 Owner's manual, page 6, Figure 2 "Engine No: on the rear lelft-hand side of the crankcase (looking forward)"
Hope this helps. I'm sure the 2002FAQ guys could help you out. A lot of them have classic Bimmers. ;)
