1990 E34 Radio Replacement

Does anyone have experience with replacing the stock radio (AM/FM Cassette) on a 1990 525i E34? It appears that the radio has a large multiconductor cable that runs to the amp in the trunk. The wires then go to the speakers. Where is the crossover located? Does anyone have a schematic of this setup? The one in the Bentley Manual covers 91 on.
