Can someone tell me with certainty the correct homelink mirror (with clown nose and autodim) for a 04 X3 with rain sensor? The BMW Accessories catalog lists 51 16 8 254 060, Circle BMW lists another #. I have seen at least 4 different part #s mentioned in various forums.

Thanks

Thanks, I believe that one also has a compass, right? I wasn't really looking for the one with a compass.

Speaking of clown noses.....is there a rearview mirror WITHOUT one? Or has anyone successfully removed theirs? I tried searching for "clown nose removal" and all I got was a thread in which one guy painted his black.....it really bugs me, I think it looks super-cheesy.

Judybe,
The mirror I have does all you ask for; dim, compass, door opener, and clown nose.
I never had a problem with it blinking, it always did. I've read a lot of posts where folks spend tons of time trying to get it to blink, I had no problem.

I had ordered it after I received my X3. The dealer installed it for me. I have a 11/03 production date on my X3, so it is an early 04. There are just a bunch of different part numbers out there. Not sure what's right anymore.

I had the dealer switch out the standard X3 mirror with the compass mirror when I took delivery of the car. I thought the homelink mirror and the compass mirror were two different mirrors. In the auto accessories catalog it shows two different mirrors, two different part numbers... ???

Certainly very confusing. I understand there is the standard autodim mirrow, one with home link, one with the compass, and one with compass and homelink. I think I have it all figured out and ordered one yesterday, we'll see what I get. I didn't want the compass, because I have a nav system and it would be redundant, plus it costs considerably more.

I am in the same situation as you, please update the part # here once you got the mirror. Many thanks

do you install that yourself? do I need any prewire before I can use the homelink?

It is an easy install. Unplug the existing mirror, plug in the new one and it is good to go.
15 minute (tops) installation. The hardest part is snapping off the plastic clamshell surrounding the mirror. Simply pry apart. The existing mirror comes off by twisting a quarter turn, the new one goes on the same way. Unlug the connector from the existing miror, and plug into the new one. Be sure not to unlug the connector to the Rain sensor.

Snap the clamshell back on and "teach" the mirror with your existing remotes. The Homelink website has complete instructions for teaching the mirror rrom your remotes.

With any version of the clown nose mirror mentioned above, how did you get the red LED blinking ?

Do you have to have it linked to the factory alarm install or can it be activated just by locking the doors ?

I believe it's a dealer setup function. Mine didn't blink, until I had the dealer change the programming to blink the parking lights on lock and unlock. Now it blinks when locked.
I don't have the optional alarm.

Hi, Did your X3 have premium package? I read it in another thread that only premium packaged X3 come pre-wired with universal garage door opener. I am thinking about getting this for my 2005 X3 but its sport package not premium.

can anyone tell me if the garage opener on the mirror is always powered or do you have to turn the key to position 2 for it to work, like in my e39. the wife refuses to let me order the mirror/opener, unless it is always powered. she complains that she hates having to remember to turn the key in my e39 to open the garage doors.

thanks

You have to turn the key to power up the garage door opener.
