Michelin no longer makes the Pilot SX MXX3 in 235/40 17. Is there a replacement for this tire? I have them on my M3, and I need to replace two. The other two tires are newer and in fine shape, so I'd like to put them on the front and match them as closely as possible with two new rear tires.

I called Michelin, and the rep told me the replacement was the Pilot Sport (not PS2, I asked), but she didn't sound real sure about it. One online dealer also recommended the Sport, but another said the PS2 was the closest match. Both tires have different treads than the SX, but the PS2 looks like a closer match to me, except that it's asymmetric.

The newer PS2 would be the nearest match in performance to the old SX MXX3. The older Pilot Sport doesn't quite match the dry grip and responsiveness of the MXX3.

The Pilot Sport is the replacement for that model.

While the original Pilot Sport replaced the MXX3 in Michelins product line over five years ago, it was a departure from the very sticky and responsive MXX3, and should not be mixed.

The PS2 would be a much more appropriate match.
