tire size..how low "profile" can u go

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Was visiting Ben at Rogue Engineering today. He had an awesome set of 19" BBS with 35 front and 30 series rear S-03's on a 2003 M 5. Monster tires.

As I still slide around the street on my OEM 02 M3 18"Wheel with those high quality Conti's -I figure its time. Hell the Blizzack snows have more grip in the dry.

The real issue is the rubbing in the front under trailbraking ( never rub under straightline braking) . Tires rubs plastic liner in front where there is the notch for the bumper bracket support. Long story short.....the Conti are 45 profiles in the front. Important to note is I have 5mm H&R spacer upfront and 15 mm in rear to match offsets.

Anyone running 30 series up front? OEM wheel is strong..but don't want to be bending them on first pot hole.

Tire rack has Front: 225 -35- 18 S-03's ( or 235-30-18's) and Rear: 255-30-18's or 265's.

Welcome thoughts, comments or observations.

These tires are not for the track unless its raining.

We've gone as low as 235/35R18 in the front and 245/35R18 or 255/35R18 rear.

If you're getting rubbing with your current setup, you may simply want to remove your 5mm spacer instead of changing tire sizes, or dremel off some of that fender liner.

The tire already did the dremel work.....I'll try removing the spacers and see if that helps.
The spacer helps to fill the well nicely.

Are you suggesting that the change to a 35 profile from a 45 going to make a difference?

I plan to change the tires anyone to S 03's cause I don't really care for the Conti anyway.
I think they are too hard, have a hard time warming up and are not great in wet either.

They do last forever though.......... ( for what thats worth)

Thanks for your thoughts

This sizes I've listed above have worked in most cases on lowered cars. If the sizes you're running now are taller than those, then of course the shorter sizes should help with clearance.
