View Full Version : Altenator Light

My alternator light tends to come on. I have no idea what causes this. I have taken my m3 to the dealer on 3 or 4 seperate occasions. They have re-loaded software 2 times, they have checked the belts, the battery and the alternator. Does anyone have any ideas or have any of you gone through the same thing. The light tends to shut off after 10 minutes of driving and then comes on later at times. I am open to any suggestions or ideas. Thanks, Troy (Soldier in Germany)

Obviously there is something wrong with the charging system. Why haven't they replaced the alternator yet? That's what I'd push for.....

Yes...it does sound like a faulty alternator...I'd also check battery connections and the connection on the "jumper" post under the hood..I had issues with it on my old e30, and are commonly just hand tightened..But judging by the characteristic of it...I'm going to go with the alternator...
