Holy cow! Our cars have depreciated so fast lately. I have seen 02's on ebay for 37k-39k! I know they are just cars and they will depreciate BUT it is still painful nonetheless.

If I had an 01 M3 & M5 I wouldn't worry about it! :)

Repeat often: "Cars are not good investments...Cars are not good investments..." ;)
Seriously though, low milage 2002 and 2003s are still fetching good prices. Who knows the actual condition of the those ebays specials. Those enthusiasts who really want an a first rate example of an E39 M5 are still willing to pay top dollar for them.
That said, as the new E60 M5 approaches, I'm sure values will continue to decline more rapidly.
I wouldn't trade mine for anything!

Everyone has different hobbies. Everyone pisses away their money on something that "isn't a good investment." I say, if it makes you happy then it's worth it. Some people tell me they can't understand why I spent so much on a new 330i, and now I want to sell it and get an M3. Some people drive a Prius. (Not that there's anything wrong with that). I can't understand how one would spend thousands on a boat when you could put that money towards a car. My point is.....whatever makes you happy, do it and don't feel guilty about it. :)

I'd agree it depends on the condition. There was an 02 M5 on ebay with 14K just a few days ago that someone used 'Buy It Now' for 58K. It was my local Porsche dealer(dallas) that listed it, I didn't even get a chance to look at it and it was gone

I can't help you with Texas lots, but
1. Go to bmwusa.com and use the CPO search function to find CPO'd M5s near you. Autotrader.com and Cars.com are other good search sites.
2. Do your research/homework at m5board.com
Good luck, you will not regret this purchase!

will check tat m5board.com thanx
I just bought my '02 CPO Carbon Black with 30,000 miles for $51, so I'd say those prices on eBay are a little low. Have the reserves been met on those cars?
Here are a couple of pictures of my wife in it:

Hi All,
Been lurking for awhile, researchign used M5's
Doing a bit of initial research on a used M5 - 02 or 03 seem to be pretty good deals right now (or not depending on where you sit ;)
I recently had a friend that prchased an 02 on eBay for $40k - got it fom Texas of all places (seems to be a hot bed of M5 activity *hah*)
Anyway, thanks all for the great info, and hopefulyl sometime soon-ish I'll be able to obtain a 4-wheel BMW (currently ride the 2 wheel kind for the most part!)
