The Dealer is trying to tell me that I have to pay 1000 to certify it and then another 1500 for the warranty to 100k. When I leased it they told me that it would cost me 1000 to certify it the end of the lease, if I wanted to by the car and that the 1000 would get me the 100k warranty. Am I being jerked around by the Lease return specialist that needs to make some money on this deal? Or was I just misinformed when I signed the contract

I don't know if you (and me) are being jerked around or not, but those are the same numbers my dealer quoted me a few years ago. The $1000 is the shop bill to get the car "up to snuff" for CPO, and the $1500 is the price of the CPO warranty.

If that is what it is then so be it.

It might be worth your while to take it. I purchased mine after the lease was up and didn't get it CPO'd or the extended warrantee. I spent close to $6K in repair costs after the original warrantee expired.

Check with another dealer... If the MMR price is less than your buyout, perhaps they will take the car in on lease, certify it, and resell it to you for less than the residual + $2500...

You just have to find someone to work with you... Try sending a PM or calling one of our illustrious sponsors...

Since you can buy the car at lease end and also buy the BMW extended warranty (same as CPO), there is no NEED to certify presuming you qualify for extending the warranty (this simply means you are in warranty).

If you buy the car, you don't have to certify jack. I am also under a lease and I don't understand this to be the case. Sounds like your dealer doesn't want to be out of their CPO fee that they would have gotten had you returned your car and they resold it on their CPO lot. Read the fine print of the contract. Of course, I could always be wrong, but I am calling BS on that CPO fee right now.

Almost what I said :)

He wants a CPO like warranty. He can just buy the BMW extn'd warranty as long as he's under warranty now.

Thanks for the feedback. BMW of San Francisco is currently certifying the car and will looks like they will charge me just 1700 to put it in to shape and CPO it. A little side note. They tell me if I do not Finance it at 3.9 there current CPO rate that I will have to pay the 350 Acuisition fee. But I called BMWFS and if I Fax the bill of Sale they will waive that as well even if I pay cash.

I feel like this is a really dumb question: where are our illustrious sponsors? Is it just the one location in the upper right hand corner? Thanks,

So what's the difference between a CPO warranty and the BMW extended one?

For the owner, no difference. Any owner can purchase the BMW warranty. CPO is for when you don't already own the car. If you have the car, and it's under warranty, there is nothing that needs to be done to "certify" it.

One small item: naturally, if you buy the BMW warranty, and your tires are in need of repair, you're on your own. :D
