'99 323is Replacement Tires

What are good tires for my '99 323is? I do most of my driving in NYC, usually obeying the speed limit, but sometimes I like to drive "spirited". I'm looking for a tire that has good handling, low road noise, and (imporant) good traction in rain and winter. My mechanic recommended ContiTouringContact, I'm not sure about these, I haven't found many good reviews.

Recommendation are greatly appreciated.

I replaced cheap Hankook Ventus tyres on 18's with ContiSportContact2 tyres. Sizes are 215/40/18 front, 255/35/18 rear. They were mid-range price but have found them excellent for Irish weather, miles ahead of the hankook's. They clear water very well, and have excellent cornering firmness. They are also very quiet due to the longitudinal pattern.
