I recently purchased a 530D with Navigation, front loader CD and 6 cd shuttle. My manual says I can play MP3's but so far I have not been succesful. My latest attempt was to rip cd's in Windows media player, abd then create a MP3 music CD with Nero, This also failed. Can anyone help ?

This may not be the solution you want but if you get a plugin like InterViedo for Windows Media it will burn as WAV files rather than MP3s and those burned discs will play wherever.

You cannot play MP3's if you have Nav Pro and use the CD drive in the dash. Some people said that you can play them if you put the CD in the CD changer but it has not worked for me. BMW will update their iDrive software in autumn this year and MP3's will be supported then.

I have a 530i with Logic 7, 6 stacker CD in glovebox and standard Nav with the DVD drive in dash.
I can play MP3's in the DVD Nav DVD drive.
MP3 DVD/CD's won't work in the 6 stacker.
When the DVD/CD is inserted in the Nav DVD drive the folder and file structure is displayed on the screen and it commences playing from the first file. On the screen that usually has the AM FM and CD selection options, MP3 is added. You can navigate through the folder structure to find the file you wish to play.
To burned the DVD is used RecordNow and created a data DVD. I copied the folders from my iTunes directory, to the folder names are the artist name, then the next level of folders is the Album name, then the album tracks (iTunes names the tracks starting with the track number, which is useful to display them in the same sequence as they were recorded on the original CD)
The only problem I have had is the directory size in the BMW computer is limited, so only a limited number folders are displayed - but there are still about 25 albums I can select from the DVD.
Thi is a subject I am watching closely as I hope to be able to have access to my entire CD collection in the car one day, with all tracks selectable via iDrive - hopefully it won't be long before a controllable MP3 device can be plugged in to iDrive.

Can't wait for the damn iDrive update myself so i can get mine to work with Nav Pro. What about burning MP3's on a DVD? :) Would the drive read it? That should store like everything from '90 to '05 :D

I too have been frustrated in not being able to play a MP3 CD in either the dash CD or the 6-CD in the glove box.
I have pro sound with nav in a 2005 545i.
On the flip side the sound quality is AMAZING.
