Hey guys, I recentely noticed that the signal status of my 2005 X5 was red. So I didnt really pay attention to it at first but then I had to use the BMW Assist and the call never went through. It displayed 5 mins later that BMW Assist was inactive. So then I took it to the dealer and they had to replace the ICU. They said that it will take a few days to activate because they have to fax in my information to the BMW Assist Center. I can reach the BMW Assist center from my X by pressing the telphone button like twice and my phone # shows up on the MID. When I press the SOS or the Wrench, NOTHING HAPPENS. I talked to the assist center and they said that my X is not diplaying my personal information. The dawm dealer said give a few days to activate.
Has anybody experienced this or know any info on it?

In the UK the service only works with two of the many phone networks. They don't tell you this until too late. I've got it on the car and can't use it unless I change service provider and take a hike in costs!
The ultimate driving machine it may be, but in the 21st Century, BMW have yuet to realise they need to open up options not limit them.
Took three weeks to find ot why the Assist did not work. Won't activate and therefore of absolutely no use.
Thanks BMW!

There was a letter sent by BMW early this year regarding some SOS Assist's not working in some 2005 models. Sounds like you have that problem. Dealer should be aware of it.

I've just had a £150-00 refund from the dealer because Assist doesn't work with my phone provider (Orange). It needed BMW UK to lean on the dealer to get the money back though, and even then it took two months.
