My company is opening a branch down in Atlanta and I expressed interest to my manager that I might be interested in running the operation. I currently live in New England and know nothing about Atlanta.
Is there alot to do down there? Weather? Restaurants? BMW community? Any advice or insight appreciated. It would help in my decision.
On a side note, I have been researching real estate online for Atlanta. Supposedly, the "desireable" neighborhoods are north of Atlanta (Fulton north, cobb, Marietta, Roswell) Can people confirm this?? I see houses that look like mansions to me that would go for $500k + in MA/RI area but only cost around $200k down there!!

North area is good.........buckhead, marietta, roswell, etc........ And I can assure you, there's plenty to do. Endless options. Weather sucks tho. Hot and humid 8 months of the year. Traffics a B*tch, always a pile up no matter which direction yr headed in, great clubs, restaurants, and shopping. And remember, in atlanta, you are what you drive

There is a lot to do in the ATL as it is called. We have been having a pretty mild summer with a little rain mixed in. There are tons of nice places to eat and it has something going on constantly. So pack your bags and head SOUTH. William

It's a good thing I live 4 1/2 hours away or I'd weigh 400 pounds.

Thanks for the advice. I have an old friend who moved down there 8 years ago and LOVES it. He is begging me to come down. He said the same thing: That north Atlanta is the place to live.

Great city with plenty to do. Very active nightlife, and the restaurants are superb. There are some very nice suburbs in Buckhead and in Decatur/Dekalb County. Summers do get hot as it is the South. I have yet to see it actually snow in Atlanta, but last winter was frigid. We had a couple of ice storms and one weekend the city pretty much froze over. Traffic is hectic, but that's to be expected for any major metropolitan city. If you live in a good location close to where you work, hopefully you won't have to put up with it much.

The housing market is reasonable compared to the northeast and west coast. It is hot in the summer, spring and fall are best, and winters are generally mild. I've seen it snow a few times, and it takes very little of it to bring the city to a standstill.
The real positive is being an hour from Road Atlanta. Good race program and the local BMW club hosts 3 DEs each year. And you're only a few hours from Birmingham where the AL club hosts another 3 at Barber Motorsports Park.
