So has anyone come up with an alternate to that ugly red beacon below the rear view mirror?
I tolerated it in my 5 but this car is to pretty for that contraption. What are they thinking?

Ever sense I read your post, I have been zoomed in on that ugly red cap.
You are right these cars deserve better!
I thought about making my own cover or removing it all together and adding a shorter LED with a smaller or a flat cover. If I decide to tackle this issue, I'll post my finding.

Have it on our X5 as well. Pretty horrible. I call it the "siren"...

Our cars are like Rudolf. :)
Seriously though, it gives me a sense of security knowing that potential thieves are probably also noticing the annoying red blinking light when I'm not around.

Thus the reason for its size, no doubt, but why's the blinking light still the size of a pinhead? *SIGH*

Hey Bat Man:
You got any mods for it? I was thinking of changing the color.

I would think that's a false sense of security? I doubt red blinking lights and an annoying alarm will stop a professional thief. I don't know of anyone including myself who has ever turned around to see which car's alarm went off.
Actually, one time walking around late in my city, I saw a drunken bum fairly pissed off at the red blinking light found on a BMW. He was screaming at the blinker for who knows what reason. I didn't stick around to see what he would do to the car, but getting the car dinged was a distinct possibility.

He was probably angry at how big it was.

I mentioned my dislike for the "clown nose" to the BMW North American Delivery specialist at the BMW performance center. BMW has cut it in half, for the new models. He was unable to tell me if the new smaller cover would fit and or replace the honkers we have on our cars. I am looking into it, I will post any info I find out.

I've had my car since Oct. I hardly ever notice the light. I don't lock the car at night in my garage so the light doesn't come on. When I park it and return, I usually unlock it before I get close enough to see the light. The light goes off when the car is unlocked from the key fob.:)

I like it actually, reminds me of that opening sequence in "Naked Gun" where the red siren goes everywhere, including the women's locker rooms.

650/drive......I am new to the forum and was investigating any possibility to decrease the size of the clown nose and came upon your post. Did you ever have any luck in finding any way to reduce the size of the nose?

Since I don't sit in my car with the alarm activated it does not bother me. :dunno:
