There are many X3 here in Toronto but none of them that I have seen equipped with the running board and compartment net. Why are there so many X3 without the board? Dont you guys think the X3 without the boards is kind of incomplete?
Personally, I like the board and the Net, They are cool!

I don't have running boards on my 2005 3.0I. Couldn't justify spending the $800 CDN the dealer wanted for them.
As for the net, I simply had no need for it :)

I have them both. The net is really good if you have kids. In case of an accident it prevents objects flying around from the back.
As for the running boards they look good. Thats about it. I really don't like them. They allways get back of my pants dirty when it is raining out side. It is also hard to get in and out of the car with them. The kids like it, but for me i not to crazy about them.
I have pics of my car with them on the forum.

The Cargo Net is Option 413 and is $150.
Is that just a net or does it include more.
I saw your pictures and it looks like some
kind of assembly as well..
Also, I did not see an option number for the
running boards.... What is that number?

What is the function of a running board on an X3? I don't see the purpose unless you are less than four feet tall.

It is to put your surfboard or bike or whatever on the top rail. Gives you more support to climb on top.

The net is a must have for transporting canines. Otherwise, they try to get in the front seat and drive

Did you get the compartment net when buying the car? or after you got the car the order it as retrofit? I got the car without the net (only the carge area cover), and when to order the net now. But the dealer said I had to buy the replace the whole thing (the cassette with the cargo area cover, with another one that has the net built-in).

I just bought the Running boards, but the dealer is charging me $500 just to install  . Do you guys have the installation instructions by any chance? Could you post them...I would really appreciate your efforts :)

I see that your cargo rails have the tie down hooks. I was told by my salesman that if they weren't in the car, they were not included, but I thought those were standard equipment in the 3.0. Anyone know what gives? Should I have the tie down hooks included at no charge?

Yes, I added a package that comes with the net and the board. Net is good to keep my dog lying at the back.
And yes, you have to replace the who carge area cover thing. The net is a built in thing that you can pull out on top of the cargo cover. It can be used with either back seat is up or down.

Do you have the cargo rails? if you have the rail then you have the hooks. They are hiding in the tool storage area in the cargo. That is where the car battery hiding. Take up the cargo board, you will see the storage area with tools. Hooks should be lying on the upper left side.

Thanks! Just went out to the garage and checked - they are right where they should be. You'd think the salesman would know better.

I have the cargo cover with net. I purchased my X3 through the CPO program and it came with. It can be a PIA if you don't line it up perfectly to lock it in place. One time I got it stuck at an odd angle. I do like it, but am not sure when I will use it. I'm to worried to let the dogs loose in the car with just the net - they usually ride crated.

What is "PIA"?
Anyone has the cargo cover with the net and willing to trade with one that is without it? :eeps:

There is a Cargo Net for X3 (http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=91156&highlight=cargo+net) thread here that is germane to the topic, particularly with regards retrofitting the net on a X3 without one (US$425, surgery on the headliner, etc.)
I was considering this net, so I took a picture of it out to the back yard and asked the dogs if they would stay behind that net while I drove. They ate the picture.

The net will not keep all dogs stay behind, there are still some gaps on two side that allow small dog to sneak around the net and get to the front.

And yes, you have to replace the who carge area cover thing. The net is a built in thing that you can pull out on top of the cargo cover.
The cargo net is combined with the rear cargo cover assembly...
So, did BMW give you the assembly with just the cargo cover in addition or
did they give you just the one? Is it a lot bigger that the standard cover assy?

The thing is same size for cargo cover with net or without net.
The only different is that you can pull up the net on top of the cargo cover bar. It might be a bit thicker but same length for sure.
There is really not much to assembly, just pull up and lock the net into the place.
and It works for both seat up or seat down position.
