I wonder if BMW will decide to put a "fun" button on the M3, like they did on the M5 and M6. Maybe let it go from a *sedate* 340 hp to 420, or some such. Don't know why in the world they would do that, but then again I suppose I don't know why they did it on the '5 and '6, unless it was to meet some sort of normal performance limit regulation in some countries. I suppose you can't stop the over-teching of modern cars by the manufacturers.

I was just thinking about that the other day. I think that would be great. Being someone who drives many miles to work in traffic every day, cutting horsepower to save on gas would be fantastic. Then, when I get to the open road, back to FULL POWER!!! I wonder, do they just not use some cylinders like other similar cars and then use them when the button is pressed? I would also like an M button on the steering wheel. Another great idea. I can't wait to see all the new goodies they will pack into the new M3.

Sorry but just not pushing your foot to the floor limits HP and reduces fuel use. Cutting max HP does NOTHING unless you are getting your foot to the floor fairly often.

Sorry if I offended you. Though I don't disagree with your statement, cutting horsepower can/could result in better fuel economy. I'd like to see BMW's reasoning for it. Regardless, I still want the button.

The reasoning is almost certainly CAFE related.
