View Full Version : Clutch issues
I recently purchased on 02 with 15k on it. Clutch has been repaced twice and is problably in need of a 3rd, snce I got into it a little when first purchased. I added the Dinan signature exhaust system and differential. Since the clutch is a weak point, any ideas on upgrading it? A local shop here, says they can have a new OEM stripped and replaced with Kevlar, a $300 up-charge. Has anybody heard of this?
Also, has anybody used the Valentine mirror or GPS radar detector systems sold by beastmotorsports?

Welcome to the board!
There is more information on M5 clutches that can be imagined at m5board.com; I recommend you go there and do a search.
Most members there who have upgraded their OEM clutch have used one of UUC larger varieties, of where there are 3 stages to choose. Most of these members are very happy with the upgrade (athough some complain of a slight ticking noise at idle).
An OEM M5 clutch (as weak as it is) really should last about 50K miles or longer if you don't let it slip under hard acceleration, so I think the most popular replacement for the OEM clutch is another one! If you plan to track the car, drag race alot, or are just hard on the clutch, go for a UUC setup.
Understandable, but is also 3 grand, the kevlar is only a $300 upcharge, bringing total install to $1500, parts and labor. I was checking to see if anyone else had done this. Also, is the UUC any different than the Dinan?

Not sure about the Dinan question. If anyone has done a kevlar upgrade on an OEM clutch, it will be someone on the m5board site. However, I don't recall ever reading about that in all the clutch related posts I have seen.

You might be interested in this - a M5board member is trying it. Seems like a good compromise to me.
