View Full Version : "Check" Light flashing
I just rebuilt a 1990 325I that self destructed becuase the orginal owner did not change the timing belt. Well lets just say I never want to do that again. Anmyway car is running fine but I have a couple of questions. There is a light that says "check" between the tach and speedo...What does this mean ?...It is not the check engine light....Second, the car idles
kinda rough....Runs great but idle aint so smooth..Engine is tight and running on all cylinders. Vac gauge confirms this along with compression gauge. Do these 325 idles rough in general ? Check engine light is off. Last, it runs a bit rough when it is cold....Anyone have suggestions as to what to check ? I do not have an owners manual yet....If anyone has one for a decent price let me know. My haines manual leves a lot to be desired. "Take Engine apart, to reassemble, just do the opposite"
Thanks

Check light flashing in the gauge cluster means check the lights above the rear view mirror for more info. most likely one of those will also be on.

Chech light could be from a million things,,,
rich/lean fuel mix,
low oil level, oversensitive oil level sender.
low coolant fluids, etc.
can you get the codes out of the ecu ?
car off, key to on position, pump gas pedal 5 times, check engine light should flash a 4 digit sequence.
the Bentley manual is the better one.
rough idle from dirty icv, remove it and spray wd40, shake and rinse; repeat.
loose injector connector, leaky injector "o" rings, etc.
cold starter valve stuck open, bad temp sensor. etc.

He said it's the check light... not the check engine light.....

Hey fporro,
Thats still good info... I know some mornings my check engine light will flash different codes 1... 123.... 1234.... It goes out after about 10 minutes, but while it flashes my headlights shudder..
So you're saying, that depressing the brake pedal 5 times will give the the accurate sequence for the light?
btw... sorry for hijacking this thread..

No, no, no... The correct phrase is "Installation is reverse of removal." :D Ditch that worthless Haynes and get a Bentley.
