View Full Version : Sirius Radio=Bad Reception

It seems whenever I drive under a tree or an overpass, the radio cuts out. I know that satellite radios need to be in view of the satellites; but mine seems to cut out a lot more then my GF's aftermarket unit. I have what I assume is one of the older models with the larger antenna. Do you think the terk antenna mod would help or is it more to do with the buffer in the radio module? The antenna is mounted on my trunk lid.

We have 3 cars each with a different Sirius receiver:
My 330 has the OEM reciever (see <a href=http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=51917>this thread</a>)
Wife's Maxima has Kenwood:
old Corolla has the JVC:
Each has the same Terk SIR3 antenna:
I notice the same overpass cut-outs on all 3 (note we won't have terribly large trees here in TX). None of the 3 seems to be any worse than any of the others.

the old kenwood unit i had in my 4runner worked really well. very rarely did it cut out. it also had some sort of inline attachment between the antenna and the tuner that the instructions claimed helped to reduce frequent signal drops. I've always wondered why my Bimmer doesn't have this attachment. Mine also seems to drop signal anytime i pass under a bridge, even at 70mph.
