Honestly, hate to say this. You're not going to get one under $1000.
Also, you asked this last week and we told you the same thing.
And double post.
Contact Eric Bustamante in Miami, FL. eric.bustamante@southbmw.com
He gives good discounts for internet sales (He took over Paul's position, for people in the know, Paul was promoted) but even so I still don't think you're going to get the price you're looking for.

What do they go for? See http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7989145469 for a recent auction with plenty of bidders.
Current auctions (2 below $1000 at this moment, but they won't end there):
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7991215397
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4568295246
And if you're a risk taker, buy this 1.9 Z3 and keep the hardtop while selling the car:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4568460489
Plus, this seller seems to have had some challenges, so negotiation over a separate sale of the hardtop might be possible.....

If you do buy off eBay, allow for the cost of crating, shipping, painting, and the $230 for the mounting kit for your car (that's a very discounted price on the mounting kit, may be possible at South Motors).
Three years ago, I got a new hardtop for $1950 from my dealer including the mounting kit, ordered for my body color. Install was extra.
And if I find a hardtop going for under $1000, you won't hear about it until after I buy it, especially if it's in steel grey or black.

I bought a brand new one from my dealer earlier this year. It was expensive but worth it to me. I agree that it is highly unlikely that you will be able to find one for under $1,000. Probably be lucky to find one for $1,500 plus shipping and the install kit.

Probably be lucky to find one for $1,500 plus shipping and the install kit.Yes, and at that point you need to start negotiating with a dealer for a new one. I did get mine delivered at the local dealer, including the install kit, in the color I selected, for $1950 in 2002.

I am in need of the hardtop mounting kit for my z3. I purchased a second hard hardtop. The hardtop itself seems to have all the necessary hardware. I need to find the kit (and best price of course) to the hardware needed for my car to accept the hardtop. Please give any and all advise, suggestions and refferals.
Thanks,
Mario

Realoem.com lists the part number for the kit as 54219408699. One place to check for price is Pacific BMW.

You should also buy the hook wrench, 54211972684, to allow you adjust the side to side and vertical fit of the rear of the top to the body.

If you are referring to phrider's post below, that was in 2002. I think you would be lucky to get a new one for $2,500 today.
FWIW I paid a grand for a hardtop in my color choice, including the complete installation hardware as well as a never opened/installed hoist. This was also a local deal so I didn't have to pay shipping either.....the deals are out there if you are patient.

You can find them on Ebay for a grand but you will be asked to send a money order to London England for a top in Maryland or some other state. You can guess what happens next!!!!
A few years ago I purchased a BG top from Phrider including shipping for under $1,900.00 It was a deal because it arrived as promised. Beware of low priced tops....

I was quoted $3250 by three different BMW dealers for a hardtop in late 2007. This may have included the installation kit, which is now very difficult to find and when I did find one it was $612.50. Not inexpensive at all!

Oh no! I was waiting for you to design a multi-top storage caroussel that would fit in my garage so I could justify getting a couple of other colors.
