Stalling issue...

Here is how to reproduce
(told the same story to the dealer - they couldn't reproduce but it's not surprising since they could never reproduce anything):

1. Drive until the car is properly warmed up (20+ min)
2. Park for 15 minutes
3. Start driving again
4. At the first stop light the car won't hold the idle and slowly die

I learned when it is about to stall and always give it a little gas for a second and the computer learns not to stall the engine. If no gas is given, it will stall BUT only once. When you start it again, it won't stall any more unless you repeat steps 1-4.

Can somebody identify the problem? If I know what the cause is I will simply tell the dealer what exactly to replace. They don't seem to be able to do anything except for oil changes.

I still have 6 months on bumper-to-bumper, so I'd like to get it fixed some time soon.

Help!

The Fuel needs to be remapped properly if the software is not stock.

Try this to let the car adjust it's self
1. turn off the car
2. Unplug the battery.
3. wait 15 minutes
4. Connect the battery
5. Start and drive the car for about 25 miles

See if this fixes the issue and let us know. also Post how many miles/ engine type/ year
There could be something as simple as a fuel filter needing to be changed

If all else fails take it to the dealer again!!! make them figure it out under warrantee

Working with the BMW shop can be a nightmare. I've had a few encounters wth these idiots. Listen i've had the same problem.
First and foremost check have BMW set you up with the updated softare. They'll hesitate and convince you otherwise, but don't take no for an answer.
this should take care of it.

Thanks for the comments.

The software on the car is stock. I will schedule it to get the camshaft position sensor replaced and see if it fixes the problem.

The car is a 2001 S54 M Coupe with 26k miles.

Alex it may be a software upgrade that you need... check that first. Other S54s have this problem.... Go to BMW ask them for the software upgrade.
