My AUX FAN (the electric one in front) has crapped out and I need to replace it. I have the replacement so now all I need to do is the swap. Has anyone seen this done or done it themselves
This where one of Ron's patented "Lets replace the Aux Fan" instruction would be wonderful!

Thanks

From dwm's TIS documents on his website. Look at 17 40 000.

Great site and that helps... sort of.

When looking at the car the first thing you see is the fan guard is completly round and is attached with 4 screws as version 2 would suggest. It looked to me like the "boxed" fan will indeed slide down and out below the car.
What has me confussed at the moment is the replacement fan - and I ordered it against the car's vin and it is the only one shown for the M coupe - looks like the version 1 in the tis.
I was hoping that someone had some real world contact with this..

Just a follow up on this... I did the change and as I described the fan that came out (turned out to be a 64 54 8 397 474) is listed as the one used in a Z3 2.8 coupe. It is the box fan looking one. Probably does a little better job directing the air. I ordered against my VIN number and recieved the "open frame" version. PN # 64 54 2 228 432. I took out the old one which was a snap to do. Jack up the front of the car - remove the cover under the bumper/radiator - remove the screws from the AUX fan and unplug it and it drops out the bottom. I went ahead and did this because I figured that if I needed the other version I would have to take the old one out anyway.. :-)
Once I got it out it was very clear that these two are interchangeable!

I slide the new unit back up into place and reinstalled the screw. After I plugged it in I cranked her up and flicked on the A/C... Presto!
A/C on = AUX fan on!

Wanted to add this because this turned out to be a very easy job and I did not have to remove anything from the car except the bottom cover to do the change. Also wanted to note that for the S52 M Coupe, these two fan version are interchangeable.
