Today I saw a black e39 with the M5 wheels, 01+ headlights/tails, M5 rims, M5 side mirrors, M5 spoiler, M5 exhaust and rear bumper, M5 badge.. But chrome trim around the windows?

I thought all M5s had high gloss black window trim.. Am I missing something?

Some early 2000 model M5's were delivered with chrome trim.

Okay. So he probably added the new style head/taillights to his 00. Makes sense.

Otherwise, that would have been a very good fake. Normally they would forget something, like the M mirrors or rear spoiler.

I believe it was an option early on. There are definately real M5s with chrome trim.

The gold standard is looking inside...there is a picture on M5board.com that is amazing: full M5 conversion (side mirrors, rear-view mirror, dual exhaust, etc.) but a photo of the inside showed an automatic!!!
