Reputable Repair Shop?

Hello,

I have a 76 3.0Si with a fried steering wheel ignition. I live Northern California and do not know anyhting about the local repair shops.

Has anyone heard of European Performance in Diamond Springs, or Black Forest in Auburn?

You are welcome! I wish we had something stickied about that -- it seems that not many people know about that organization, and I end up posting that link a few times every month.

A big issue with the cars from the 70s--especially the 6 cyl ones--is the way BMW (and others) addressed emissions requirements. Exhaust Gas Re-Circulators/Thermal reactors etc really generated a lot of heat and often lead to cracked heads. I had a 530i and removed all smog stuff, replaced the exhaust manifold with a euro spec one for a Bavaria and added a euro distributor as well. The difference in performance and mileage was dramatic and it ran considerably cooler as well. Perhaps you coulld do something similar to your car? (Assuming you plan on keeping it)

Yes, my car had difficulties staying out of the red zone, but that's behind us now. Not one piece of smog equipment, headers, LARGE fan and radiator seemed to do the trick!

Have you tried Schatz & Krumm in Sacramento? Not sure of 1st spelling, but Stuart (Krumm) knows BMWs and has modded M3s as well as crewed race cars. He's the kind of guy who can improvise when needed to keep a car running.

Thank you! I haven't heard of Krumm before. I am taking the car in today to this place:

It's close to where I work, and it was on the list of IAIBMWSP members that I was given by Bart001.

If you can't find anyone in the Sac area, drive to the Bay Area and go to Moran Motorsport in Berkeley. They are honest. Exremely qualified. All BMW factory trained. Have extensive knowledge of older BMW's. An excellent shop!
