I see that JD Power rates the E63 with only 3 circles for overall quality and other ratings are not too good either. How are your experiences? I am afraid, especailly since Im in the used car market.

I have 22000 miles on mine. I've had it since April 2004. In March of 2005 I had the steering rack replaced under warranty. That is the only problem (knock wood) I've had. I get it serviced in Palm Springs and they are great at the dealer. I am very happy

Geez, 22k, and you got the steering rack replaced? That sounds like a quality issue.

I have about 11k on my car. I have a convertible, and I got several problems with mine, but nothing too serious:

1. Coolling fluid level low. Turns out to be a sensor malfunction.

2. iDrive computer warns me that my convertible roof is opening, when it isn't. The mechanic had to reset my computer. He told me that it's because I tried to open/close
roof over 20MPH. I did nothing of the sort. The problem bugs me, because there's
a chance that it will happen again.

And before you think it was my fault, this problem happened in the morning, about 10 seconds into driving, and I was driving in my neighborhood, no chance to go ovef 20MPH, and I was stopped at an intersection.

3. Plastic 'vent' broke. This is the vent that opens to allow the convertible roof arm to come through the body of the car. There was a cheap plastic hook underneath the vent that allowed the vent to open and close. It broke, and so the vent was open all the time,. So that with the top down, you could see a 'hole' where the vent would be.

These problems came within 6 months of getting my car. It does bother me that in 6 months after getting my car, that I've had these problems. I really shouldn't have these sorts of problems in 6 months! I'm hoping it was just bad luck. Other than that, my car has been fine, and I've been quite happy with the 'quality' of my car.

I think it would have been a problem if it happened frequently. I have been reading BMW boards for two years and this is the second case of steering failure I have heard of. It would have been a major issue if BMW had not fixed it and had gone into denial and made me pay for it. They did the right thing by me and I accept that being a mechanical device, problems will sometimes develop with cars. My previous BMW was 16 years old with 300K miles and had almost no problems except filters, brake rotors and pads and other routine stuff. I would recommend a 6 to anyone and look them in the eye a year later.

9,000 miles and 7 months later no issues. I do not believe BMW could score higher with the complexity of iDrive for some owners. Some will downgrade quality based on having to do software upgrades and the like. I am happy so I do not care what the "survey" says.

I have only had mine for 6 months but it is by far the best built car of the 4 BMWs I have owned. Not a single problem. A dramatically different experience from my E60.
