Anybody else having poor quality with the in car microphone? It seems to break up all the time. It's so bad that I'm going to have to disable bluetooth with car and use a headset. Nothing but complaints from anybody that's listening to me.

I'm wondering if part of it is the car noise. Don't these have noise cancelling built into it? Or maybe it's losing quality with bluetooth to the Treo.

Mine seems fine. A few of my friends notice because they ask if they are on 'speaker phone'. This has only happened when I've had the top down. However, with the top up, no one has noticed, and I did an experiment with my friend to see.

He noticed the difference but admitted to me that if I didn't tell him, he wouldn't have guessed or even thought it.

I also have the thin Moto Razr phone. When I got blue tooth installed, the technician asked what kind of mobile phone I got. I told him, and he responded that the 6er works best with my model phone.

I may have to compare using my bluetooth treo with a friends bluetooth razr to see if there's a difference.

I have a V3 Razor and it crap in the 6er.
My conected parties always state there is a echo, crackling etc...

Don't think that it is your phone it might be the car. But the update will hopefully fix it.....

I have a Treo 650 and was talking through my car and my friend said it was the worst sound quality he has ever heard. He said DO NOT do business over the car system, because the quality was so bad. It bummed me out, $85K for the car $500 for the phone and it sucks??

I am going to do a few tests, like smooth cruise did to verify. It works fine but it sounds crappy? Woe is me!

Remember, you (and I) are in the worst clear signal cell phone area in the Universe - Southern California. Was it possible that it was a bad call, or is the phone quality consistently bad? If so, the fault could be in the antenna in the car or the sound system. (I am not an expert, as my 650i isn't here yet - but I have a Mercedes proprietary Motorola V60 plug-in system in my CL55 and sometimes it's great and sometimes it's awful. There was also a problem with the antenna when I first got the car.)

Other than comments by other parties, I've tested leaving voice mail on work or home phones from various locations, different signal strength, etc. Signal strength has the most impact, but in general at 4 and 5 bars I have excellent tonal quality. Provider / phone in sig

I saw postings related to the poor microphone quality. I have a 2005 330 CiC and have the exact same problem with the quality of the microphone. It is so bad, that I had to turn it off (Moto RAZR V3 & BB 8703). I am taking my car into the dealer this week for routine maintenance and let them hear how bad it sounded. They confirmed that it sounded bad, but had no idea if they could fix it.

Was anyone ever able to get it resolved, and if you did, can you tell me if the dealer had to replace the mike or upgrade the BMW firmware/software.

Thanks alot in advance,

i have treo 650 in my 645 seems like the cars mic is to weak and i have to talk kinda loud for people to hear me.... and to fix the echo... i put my phone in the glove box... it seems the phone itself doesn't turn of its own mic and speaker causing this.

Is ther a setting to make the mic more sensitive?

I haven't tried to "hide" the phone in a quiet area. I'll try to muffle it later and let you know if that helps. thanks very much for the idea !!!

SD, I use the Treo 650 too. The sound quality was poor especially on my trips to SoCal and when I'd return to AZ, worked fine. However, I did switch service carrier's last year and since then, my So Cal sound quality has improved alot, according to the people on the other end.

I was my wife's 550i this weekend and made a call to a friend. He didn't even realize that I was in the car until I told him. He said the sound quality was much better than when I called him in my old 650i. There was no echo, or "speaker phone" distortion. :dunno:

I have a 545 and Moto Razr and I usually leave the BT off. Everyone complains. The BT is convient but if the people you are calling can't understand what you are saying what good is it?

Seems that when I'm using BT the signal is not as strong if on the phone without BT.

BMW needs to resolve the mike problem and location. I think they might be trying to locate the mike so everyone in the car can participate in the call. They should locate the mike so the driver is in command.

I just installed a 12th generation BT system in my X5 and bought a new "upgraded" microphone. My Verizon XV6700 pairs up fine and the phonebook works, but folks I'm talking to say they can barely hear me, like I'm at the end of a long tunnel. I don't have any problem hearing them, though. I'm not at all happy that a $55 microphone sounds so bad. Plus in the X5 the mic is located on the far right side of the overhead console. It's as far away from the driver as it could be. What genius thought that was a good idea? :thumbdwn: My 740iL had a CPT 8000 wired in, but still didn't have very good sound quality through the mic, despite my having upgraded it. But the sound quality in the X5 with the Bluetooth is even worse. It's so bad that the voice recognition software can't even understand me.

I'm wondering if some of the problem is with the phone itself. The XV6700's biggest strength is definitely not the phone.

Turns out that the mic was bad in my car and they ordered another one. I just need to schedule time to get it installed as it was back ordered.
