following hot on the heels of Alan F's review of the CLK is a SLK review. i had the pleasure of driving one this weekend.

having experienced rides in both the CLK and the prev. generation C-class i was always under the impression that MBs are softer in nature, not as sporty as BMWs. well after driving the SLK that impression has changed considerably. this car is blazingly tight and handles better than my BMW 3-series(sans-sport package). considering it only has a super charged 4 banger it is very quick. but no one will every mistake the growl of the exhaust for a 6. it definitely sounds like a 4 banger.

at just 100lbs lighter than my 3series it definitely moves it weight around nicely. and the i'm sure most of the weight can be found in that incredible folding hard top. even though it's 4 years old, it still turns heads at traffic lights when i raised or lowered the roof. it's like a well choreographed ballet to see that roof in action.

i tried finding the bumpiest/most pot hole filled roads in TO to unsettle the car. and nothing i threw at it would even get a creak or a moan out of it(top up or down).

about the only failing in the SLK is the cruise control stalk, i frequently hit that when selecting the turn signal(yes it's a first in TO to use that thing).

and finally as a 'babe' magnet this car does wonders. :) in Bimmer filled TO it's nice to drive a car that still gets attention.

I've driven my friend's SLK 230 on a winding mountain road with the top down, and I agree with your review. It is a very solid and fun car with tight steering, good grip, and decent acceleration. Lots of fun, but the engine sound is not to my liking.

I owned one for a year. Fun car, well built, great roof. I like my 330 CIC much better. More nimble, faster, more torque.

nice review & pics

I've drove a SLK a long time ago and I liked it except for 2 things . . .

1) the steering wheel felt too big for such a small car (typical Mercedes)

2) You feel like your sitting in a bathtub

Otherwise, it's a very impressive car !!

You're right, relative to the door, you sit quite low. In the case of the Lexus SC430, you *are* in the bathtub.

Well, I owned one for a year and only scored 23% on the gay-o-meter.
