View Full Version : Electrical Experts - Battery Trickle Charger

I bought a trickle charger for the car show this weekend to help keep my battery charged. It has a microprocessor that senses when the battery is low and it will automatically charge the battery as necessary. It has 15 amps for fast charging and 2 amps for slow charging.

Since my car will be on playing videos/music for about 10 hours on Saturday and 6 on Sunday, which charge should I keep the car on? I figure that my battery would die after about 30-45 minutes with no charger so I'd assume that 15 amps would be sufficient to keep my battery charged.

Anyone have an idea what I should do?

I would keep it set on the high setting if your system draws that much. The charger will only deliver what the system wants...you wont' "over cook" anything with the higher setting.

I.E. if your system only needs 4 amps, the charger will only put out 4 amps.

Very Important!!!!keep area around charger clear. (don't cover it, or put it in a box) the charger will disapate heat!!

Thanks for the advice guys! I was thinking about putting the charger in the left front engine compartment (where that large hole is for the old DSC module --> I think this is what the hole was for); do you think this is a good place to put it?

NO.. not for a show, I'm serious pete, it will need ventilation.

The only way you can leave it under the hood is if you also add a small AC or DC fan......Please trust me...

and good luck at the show!! is it a contest your in also????

edit: it could possibly get hot enough to effect you hood paint if you leave it on all day without ventilation....

I agree. Maybe on the ground nearby with the cables fished up from underneath.

I was just about to right the same thing...depending on how big your charger is....try to get it down on the floor , behind a wheel, it may stay out of site then...

Good thing I posted this here, otherwise real bad things could've happened. I will put it under the car by a wheel. I will also bring a small fan to help keep the charger cool.

The show has a bunch of different classes. I will be competing in the Euro Chapter. There is a lot of competition so I hope I can pull this off. I'm working on a display for the show right now. This is tougher than I thought. Chris (webguy330i) suggested that I check out kinkos and have them do the poster. This is what I plan on doing when I get home.

My car will be going for Best I.C.E. (in car entertainment). Thanks for the support!
