e36 touring trim and rear seats

i would appreciate assistance with the 1998 touring i have just bought. the catches holding the side panels (over the CD changer and warning triangle) in the back are broken and i think i need to take the vented mouldings out, which hold these. i got so far, but then it seemed i needed to let the rear seat down flat . couldn't see how to do this either.
