serious problem

I just got a 98 323is, and my radio wont work. If i press in the knob it turns on i can go through the channels switch to am/fm etc. but when i turn the knob to the left or right the volumn wont go up theres no sound. I pulled the unit out and all the wires are connected properly no fuses blown. How can i fix this the car sounds nice and all but i NEED music

Do you have factory head unit with cassette player? I did in my 98 323 and I replaced it with a newer Z3 CD43 head unit with CD player. You won't believe the sound difference. The cassette head units have some sort of bandwidth filter that "dulls" the sound (FM, CD). I bought my CD player off ebay for about $300 used. Pricey but the OEM look, CD player, and sound was worth it for me.

I replaced the factory alpine tape/radio with a new Pioneer CD player. HUGE difference. Takes less than 30 minutes to change it out. Simple.
