If the original wheel is 18 x 9 with a 32mm offset, given a choice of 15mm or 45mm on a 18 x 9.5 wheel, which should I choose? I really don't want the wheel/tire sticking further out than the original did.

If this is for a 545i, the lower offset is the more correct offset of the two. Although it will stick out more than your exsisting wheel setup, the higher offset has a chance of rubbing on the inside suspension.
