View Full Version : Oh yeah!!! I got the E30!

Hey guys, last night I bought the E30. It is truly a wonderful car!

It is a 1988 325is with 150K miles. It has spent most of its life in FL and has been well maintained. I am the 3rd BMWCCA member that has owned this little gem.

It drives well and the suspension feels to me like it out performs SP equipped E46’s. My mechanic “teched” it for the upcoming driving school. He was really nice by letting me go to his shop after hours and being in the service bay the whole time so he could point things out and discuss what he found.

Compared to the E46 it has extraordinary throttle response, probably due in part to the JC chip. It came equipped with a UUC short shift kit which feels awesome; I would highly recommend it for any bimmer.

VERY NICE:thumbup:

Except no nookie for you in that back seat.

Does this impact the options on your e46 order?

You can count on it being at many NCC autox's, hop in for a ride.

This car is very impressive in the upper range of the RPM!

That is one sweet ride! Did you get a good deal on it? The previous owner looks like he really took care of that car. It's amazingly clean!!

I got a fair deal. I paid a bit more than Blue Book, but thousands less than the cost of the recent maintenance and go-fast mods. I really think finding one all set like this was a good find.:)

I think so. I sent the email to Roy today, but I have not heard back. T

he NCC is usually very good with getting wait-list people and walk-ups into the autox. So, I would say yes. BTW, are you in the Sept Driving School? I am for both days.

No lie there! Randy Walters (the LA AutoX champ with a 325is) would be proud! :)

I've got to get out to a NCC autocross. I'm going to be at Rosecroft on 9/15 and Fedex on the 22nd. Will any of you guys be around?

I'll be at both of them. The next NCC is 9/21 (location TBD, but I'd be suprised if it's not rosecroft).

I love that place, because the traction is so low the ///M-cars don't run away from the rest of us. I bet your AWD helps a bit there, it is kind of like off roading in some places.:lmao:

I haven't given a lot of thought to it...

Hmm...3 events at FedEx = 2 last place DS finishes in dry, 1 middle in the wet. 4 events at Rosecroft = 1 first time out throwaway and 3 middling to depressing, but not lastplace.

AWD should only help where I would otherwise get wheelspin. Over the rest of the course it's just extra weight to move around atop skinny tires.

I'm signed up for the 9/21 and 9/22 autocrosses; I'll definitely be at one, but am not yet sure I'll be at both.

Wow!

Looks like a gem of a car

Now all you need to do is get a trailer and put a hitch on the 330. Then you can get serious and gut the E30 :p That way if there is ever a problem with the E30, you'll have a nice tow vehicle to finish the event in :p :D

If it's an either/or...the past two SCCA courses have been great. They were definately the two most enjoyable courses that I've run this year. Maybe that just means that they've peaked though and the next one will be as boring as the the last one of theirs that you went to. :dunno:

I think he's getting a 2003 and this is interim transportation and a permanent track car.

fwiw, I took this one:

The others I took aren't out of focus, but many of them suffer from camera shake. The ones that Nick took that aren't focused on the subject are focused on the wrong objects,...so :flipoff:

You got it, the 2003 330i is on the way and I may keep this E30 forever.:bigpimp:

The final outcome of the wrecked 2001 330Ci is not yet known. When I know, I will post something to tell you what is up.

I ws digging through some of my pics tonight and came across THIS pic. This pic was taken the first time CD-55, JST and I met up. It was at an autox at Tipton Field. None of us ran that day. And we all still had our E46s.

Well, I was glanced at the pic and suddenly realized something. The E30 at the right of the pic looks damn familiar. In fact, I think I rode in it recently...

That's hilarious, because I *remember* that car. I remember looking inside it while we were sort of milling around.

Small world. Or at least, small community of BMW owners in the Washington DC area.

I still think Type 44s are the best looking wheels that BMW has made for the 3 series, and black/sand was a really sharp color combo. That was a nice car.
