Is anyone else like me waiting to see if the E46 price drops through the floor when the e90 comes out? Do I really need 400 plus horsepower? Well, yes, I do! But do I need it bad enough to buy an E90 M3 over an E46 M3?

Both are great cars, and on the road either one will get lost with the non m3 variants. Dual tail pipes is ot enough to distingish the cars.

In my opinion, there will be no massive price drop on new E46 M3s. Oddball, hard to sell leftover cars may be available at the end for incredible prices, but I don't think there will be large numbers of unsold E46 M3s on dealer lots.

If you are referring to a drop in used E46 M3 prices as the E90 M3 arrives, I agree that we could see that. There could also be folks who are holding out for the E90 M3 and when it is released will be turned off by the styling or the waiting lists/markups and will go elsewhere, potentially including looking for E46 M3s.

Not sure about that, people always whine about style changes in cars, does not appear to ever affect BMW sales.

BMw has slow sellers like the X3, not because of styling, but because they built so many in an already crowded suv market.

The reason you would want it isn't because it's faster then the E46 M3, you'll want it because it's the "new M3" and they way it will make you feel when you drive it.

Funny thing is, the new Mustang actually increased teh price of used Mustangs.

M3s do not drop like some cars when the new models come out. This based on E30 => E36 and E36 => E46 changeovers.

That's kind of what I wondered. Would there really be a drop or not. I'm talking one or two year old used cars here. In reality, I don't even need the power of the E46 but I do like the track days (HPDE, not racing, that's a whole different thread) and my 325i, while awesome in the corners is a bit wheezy down the straights.

If I want to be honest, the best thing for me would be a 330 ZHP since I've got two girls. But man I really want that M badge. :)

Not really, they hold their value pretty well.

I like the current smaller engine more than the v8 they will put in. And when the 335i comes out, the E46 M3 should drop a little.

The new E90 M3 should actually have loud throaty roar compared to the current M3 though.

I'm a potential used M3 candidate, but unless I come across a solid deal on a '02 or '03, I'll wait until the E90 (or time/mileage) pushes prices down -- it always does.

Regardless, I don't think the huge difference will be HP, it'll be the torque. A V8 should be a welcome change (addition??) in this department.

Consider the insurance implications as well. Going from a 6 cyl to v8 will most likely increase the premiums 10-20%.

How will the engine feel compared to the S54? The M3 definitely has to be reved up to really get moving, will the E90 V8 be the same?
