My 2003 745LI only came w/one remote. I've seen several remotes on Ebay. Is it possible to reprogram the remote to work w/my car? If so, DETAILS PLS!!!!

Thanks to all,

John

Do you mean the remote/button on the actual key?

Remember, the remote is programmed to open the doors/trunk ,etc. and then the key has a chip to start the car.

I have never heard of anyone doing this reprogramming stuff without going to the dealer.

It is possible to get a good dealon the key, and then go to the dealer for programming.

I would just go to the dealer and get a key made. Costs a little more I am sure but at least you know it works.

Hello I went to the dealer last week. What the service manager told me to do is put the key in the ignition slot ,holding it there and the system will program itself. But you has to make sure you get the right key remote. The FCCID: number is LX8766S but there for different type 7 Series car. Ones for the 745 and 750/760. The correct for the 745LI is: Manufacturer Part Number: BMW 6 936 573 and the one for the 750/760 is: Manufacturer Part Number: BMW 6 959 044-01. I hope this will help you...

I bought one from Ebay and went to the dealer to get it activated, they told me they can not do that, the only way for me to get the keys to work is to order it from them, so the $70 I spent on the extra key is useless.......

In this scenario, it seems that stealing a car would be much easier. Get in the car, put in your ebay key fob, program it and you are off. Maybe it is that easy.

In my experience, I was told to order a new key (non-comfort access) from BMW. I did. It came to the dealer (next day air) and it required a simple programming procedure done by the service manager, similar to what you described.

Ok here is my question I have like (5) Key remotes that I purchase from online. The remote from what I were told work fine. I were told by the BMW Dealer service department that all I need to do were put the key in the iginition slot and it would program itself. However that is the case I got a message back on my dash saying wrong key. So I just want to know if I sent you my keys what other information do U need to program my keys for my BMW., Also what is your cost to do this. I really were trying to have a spare key on hand. I also ask a auto shop here that work on all imports BMW, Mercedes etc;; and they were telling me it could be the program module gone bad.. So please let me know if you can help me.. Here is my cell 803-466-1052 call me Delano Jones

As far as I know, you cannot purchase remotes from the internet and program it to your car. I was told every bmw made has 10 keys which are in Germany. 2 keys are given with the car when it is first delivered. If you need a replacement you have to get it from Germany. The dealer then programs it to your car by placing it in the keyslot for a few minutes.

I have a 2002 745li. I bought it & when it arrived i only had one key. I locked my only key in my trunk with my phone. I ordered a new keyfob & received it the next day. I put it in & it pushes it out. I hold it in & it says wrong key. I read your comment about the fob #s & my manufacturer part number does not match my old fob #. Do I need to take it back or will it work?

I saw some post not sure if here or in other BMW forum that it is possible without going to the dealer. It said something like open ( cut ) both the bad key and also the eBay key or wherever you got it from. And it was needed to take one small chip of your bad key to solder it or change it into the eBay key . Don't remember if was needed a coding or something. But I guess not. The problem was, because inside the key there are some fragile parts or pieces, that with vibration or even when we drop the key, it start to get loose ;and some contacts are not tight anymore that's why we get the buttons working randomly. But that small chip is what makes the difference between all keys. Because it has being coded with the computer and modules that came from factory . That's the reason when using some eBay key it won't stay and immediately the key it's rejected for theft security purposes. Also I checked some mobile companies in California fixing all kind of problem with German keys from a single button not working to a broken key and using another used one ( i BELEIVERS from eBay lol ) and doing a re-flash and coding it to the whole car. By the way, it needs to flash several modules before accept the new key. YouTube has some info . Also some people had tried to charge the batteries with those electric teeth brushes chargers. That would be a not expensive way to try . Also couple years ago had a problem with my key locking always but opening once in a while. And the emergency key was not the original . So, I went to the dealer and after giving them my information, and the registration under my name with the car VIN number it ended that this car had
No more cut keys available. The 10 lifetime were purchased already because of the damn cheap battery ( just the way dealer keeps business ) and. They said the only way to go was buying the whole computers ,modules and all needed and get it coded or get everything from a junkyard and try to re-flash it. Not a cheap option. So, I ended installing a aftermarket alarm and using the key only to start the car. It was kind of embarrassed with the sound coming from that alarm and people looking at you... Lol . The pros: it had 2 alarms . And was useful when you leave the car and some places you don't know or look kind of suspicious. Take a shot with your local trusty alarm or stereo shop. At this time they know slot of stuff on this cars and some better options then the OEM . As the l7 amplifier I need to replace. Hope this helps.
