For Sale : E46 Limited Slip Differential (3.07 final drive ratio / same as ZHP)

The diff was purchased new and installed about 11 months ago. Itís in excellent condition and went through proper break-in procedure. The diff has had only RedLine 75W90 Synthetic Gear Oil in it. The fluid was changed after 100 miles and then again after 900 miles to properly break it in. The fluid was changed again after 15,000 miles. All together the diff has about 18,000 miles on it. The diff was custom built by Jim Blanton of PerformaceGearing.com (http://www.performancegearing.com) (Jim builds all the diffs for TC Kline Racing and Turner Motorsports). It was built with a 40% lock-up, which is perfect for both street and track use. It will fit all 330 models (except xi), it may even fit the 325ís but not sure. You can purchase it brand new for $4,100. Iím asking $2,800 plus shipping. I accept Paypal. PM me if interested. Iím selling because Iím parting out the car and getting ready to sell it.

Just curious how this differs from Turner Motorsports LSD for the E46 which costs $2275?

For one, you have to find a diff and someone to put the TMS unit in it. Andy's is a bolt on package.

Can't you put it in your existing diff?

Anyway, I got it, thanks. I'm blowing all my cash on the 330, nothing left for a diff. :)

Very tempting at that price! But i just paid cash for a ZHP, I'll be lucky if I have enough cash left to buy a dozen donuts for the next year.

Any guarantees as to it's current condition? $2.8k is a lot to pay for a big paperweight ...

I would say itís in excellent, like-new condition. I bought and installed the diff in January of this year. It went through proper break-in procedure, the fluid was meticulously changed with Redline 75W90. I bought the diff for one reasonÖ to compete nationally in Solo 2 for the 2005 season.

During the 11 months I had it in the car, I used it for both daily driving and autox. I had absolutely no issues with the diff during daily drivingÖ no clunks, squeaks, chatter of any kind (itís quite just like the stock diff). During normal driving there is no difference. On the track or during spirited driving is when the diff really comes alive. With the LSD you now have twice as much traction available to you, which results in quicker 0 to 60 times. But best of all, no more one-wheel wheel spin in the corners, even if the inside wheel is off the ground, the outside wheel is able to put the power down.

Iíd highly recommend contacting Alex, Pete or TC from TC Kline Racing on the quality and craftsmanship of a Jim Blanton built diff. Their phone number is (614) 771-7744, they will be more then happy to answer any questions about their experiences with their Jim Blanton diffs.

There are two guys on this board who have autoxíd the car, Elbert and rumatt (although Iím not sure rumatt posts here anymore, but you can find him on E46Fanatics.com). There are two other guys on this board that have driven the car on the street under normal driving conditions, Clyde and Solo2///M (John V). Iím sure any of these guys will give you their honest opinion of how the car drove.

I did my research of LSDs for the E46 before I bought this one. I could have easily bought a Torsen or Quaife for half the cost of what I paid for this one. However, both Torsen and Quaife diffs have their problems. I wanted the best and built my car with no expense spared, that is why I went with Jim Blanton. I paid about $4100 for the best diff you can get, and now someone out there is going to have the best for about half that cost.

For those near Columbus, OH (or those who would want to drive here), Iíd be willing to sell it for $2600 installed!! Yep, thatís right, pull into my garage and Iíll have it install in about an hour or so. Hurry up and send me a PM or an email if youíre interested, Iíve got a couple local guys express some interest.

* If youíre picking up the diff locally or want me to install it, Iíd prefer payment via cashierís check or money order. Thanks.

I was pleasantly surprised how well the diff worked. No back stabbing drama, as it engages and disengages smoothly. The autox course was pretty dirty and not yet rubbered in (we were in the first run group), but putting the power down to the ground wasn't a problem. I even got 1st place (Novice) PAX that day.

The diff is in good condition. I helped with the uninstall by putting the driveshaft bolts in the plastic bag :)

If it was a 3.73, it'd be on my race car right now. :p If you want to autocross your ZHP in STX, that's the ratio you need. It just doesn't fit my needs (which are basically to shorten the gears enough that I can actually use 5th).
