I keep Checking Tire Rack for winter steel rims for the e90.
They don't seem to be available. Any hope to see them soon?
A related question:
I heard that, beside cost, steel rims are better than alloy for winter in that (a) they can be 'hammered' back into shape if a pot-hole damages them and (b) they increase unsprung weight, which is better on snow. Is this cotterct?
TIA

I don't see any steel wheels coming any time soon, sorry. There are some brake clearance issues as well as the rising cost of steel that are making them become harder to fine.

I would like to point out a few things. One should never hammer any wheel back into shape whether steel or alloy. I've never seen proof that increased unspring from a heavier wheel helps in snow traction. Even though they're more expensive, keep in mind that alloy wheels we sell have a painted and clearcoated finish which should be more durable than non-clearcoated steel wheel finishes, and there are no wheel covers to mess with.
