hey everyone... just got a black on black 98 M3 about 4 months ago, and im thinkin about what to do with it first, and i think im gonna go with a new exhaust.
so far i found out theres scorpion and remus exhaust to go with. and if there are any other good brand names hit me up with some... but which one would do me well in terms of horsepower gain? and hey if you've heard any for yourself, tell me which ones you think sounds the best...

...and by the way, i do have money to blow from working in the godforsaken resteraunt business ive been in for almost 2 years... but please, nothing over a grand... haha

Nick,
I Had A 95 M3 And A 97 M3....my Personal Preference Is A Remus Cat Back Exhaust...i Found A Guy In Canada Who Makes Them To Exact Fit For $550. Although I Know Longer Have His Number. B&b Makes A Ok Exhaust, But I Really Think The Remus Just Sounds The Best...more Deeper Than Anything....and I Went Through About 4 Different Exhausts....im A Real Pain In The Ass When It Comes To How I Want It To Sound...so Take It For What Its Worth And Good Luck.

thanks for tips... yeah i kinda narrowed it down to remus anyway, i just talked to some guys about it today and they told me good things about it...borla seems cool too, we'll see. but one more ?, if i were to slap an exhaust on there, say a remus.. how much horsepower would that give me? i was thinkin maybe 5-10 right?

Not really that much, BMW mufflers are pretty good for flow. Now ifyou change the whole exhaust system from front to back, that can give you some gains.

My Remus has a note that is just beautiful, put it with a decent intake and the sound is very managable, but when it's down it's loud enough to make me grin. Supersprint also does some pretty good stuff, but Remus is my fav.

I have a supersprint - race - catback system. It sounds awesome. Everyone I spoke with regarding exhaust said supersprint exhaust systems flow nice but are quitecompared to ther brands. That is until they heard the sound from this system. It's not overbearing but it's loud enough that I set off car alarms all over town, and my room mate hears me coming home from a block away

i still say remus....the deepness in the sound is by far the best. F the extra 5 horses, if you want more horses go all out with full exhaust and while your at it grab a turbo or blower. if you just want some sound and a nice drive around car. stick with the remus.

I have a supersprint exhaust that cost around 600 bucks, borla and remus are quality as well. As long as you have a free flowing exhaust with the tips you like it really makes no "big" difference. remember a cold air-intake will balance it out so go with both for better gain.

the supersprint race cat back system i have is part # 043606 Rear exhaust OO 70
http://www.supersprint.com/prodotti/043606.jpg

cost me about $700.00 Canadian plus install. I'm sure you could find it much cheaper if you looked, but I wouldn't even consider anything else after owning this muffler.

here is an interesting comparison of a number of different mufflers available with SOUNDCLIPS. Unfortunately the exhaust system I have on my car is not in this test, too bad cause mine (I think) sounds better than any of them.

now that you are good and confused....hahaha, i really like remus and i think either the round tips or dtm tips are the best on the m3, although that supersprint looks pretty decent....check the sound quality, my computer wouldnt let me hear it.

wow, thanks again for the great feedback... and the clips are great. the supersprint sounds pretty similiar to a remus... i think. remus just sounds maybe a tad bit lower. but i think its safe to say now im pretty confused haha, but i now have a good idea what each brand sounds like how much they cost etc.. but its nip and tuck between the remus and supersprint... but thanks a lot guys, i appreciate it... and that "stromung" clip sounded pretty bad too... what kind of exhaust was that?

Stromung. Check understeer.com.

Supposedly it's good for like 56 rwhp. ....or maybe not :)

Well, you're not going to get much more hp from any new setup, unless you're talking about headers and back, but most people start out with a cat back system, and the sound is the most noticable change, even thought you might pull a couple more hp out of the deal.

I have the Supersprint (on it when I bought the car), and I can tell you that I get lots of compliments on track days. It is also a very sturdily built unit, not cheap & wimpy, fits perfectly, but still lighter than stock. The sound is great when you're "up there", yet when you drive normally, it is not so rudely loud.

It comes down to personal preference as far as the sound goes, and if you consider a CAI as well, you might get a tiny bit more torque and even a couple more hp as well, AND there's another whole source of sound for you to play with...

If you want to see what a side by side cat back exhaust comparison will look like, check out this link if you haven't already:
http://www.europeancarweb.com/tech/0301ec_techbmw/index.html (EDIT: oops, I see it posted above...)

If you actually get 4 or 5 hp out one of these, your butt dyno may never even feel it...so buy yours for the sound you'll have to live with for a long time, but then, only if that matters to you enough to blow the dough. If so, go for it!

56??? NO WAY. It is hard to get that much with full headers back, full intake and cams.
