I drive a 2006 bmw 325 sport.I am down to two tire choices for this winter and spring(nov 15 to april 15)the dunlop m3(it is a high performance winter tire, and nokian wr(one of the only all season tires, with a real winter rating.)I'm torn, the novian has a great reputation, and the wr will go at least to 50,000 miles.Tire rack rated the dunlop very well also.Any thoughts from bmw drivers with these two tires.I live in minnesota,we have long winters, but also superior snow removal capabilities.

the Dunlop M3 are a winter tire, the Nokian WR are more like an all-season tire with some better winter performance. i have the Nokian RSI's which i believe are better compared to the M3's. i love the Nokian RSI's and live in Calgary, Canada so i can relate to the long winters!

I had the same dilema and went with the Nokian WR's. Our roads are cleared pretty regularly and I wanted to get more life out of my winter tires. The Nokian WR's are going to be seeing their first winter so I have to wait and see.
I have the WR's on my M3 for the past 2 years, since January of 2004. For the mixed conditions of Vancouver with anything from snow, ice to hot weather, these tires have been incredible! I initally bought them to deal with unexpected winter conditions and the occassional snow, but I was so pleasantly surprised that in the first year they stayed on the car year round! This summer I put back the S03's I had on the original rims, just to give a rest to the Nokians! Yes in the summer , the summer tires were much better in the dry but the Nokians are more quiet and in the grand scheme of things unless you autocross or really hit the twisties hard they can stay on the car year round. Last Year's snow and ice were dealt like it was nothing , slush was nothing to fear and only on very hard ice my traction control came up a few times. Plus it was a bit of fun hanging the tail out and catch it just as easy :)
I cant say enough for these tires and they will go also on my 911 for this coming winter.

Canadiandriver.com has a review of the Nokian WR. They said it's comparable to some of the lesser winter tires in the snow. Unless you're gonna use it all year round, I'd get the M3s, they'll have equal or better traction in the snow.
If you're gonna buy Nokian snows, buy the RSi.

FYI, the RSI's are a very soft tire. I checked them out. They are even softer than the Bizzaks. If you didn't have much snow, they would probably wear out in one season. But they are awesome in snow and ice.

well,i just put the nokian wr-h rated tires,on yesterday, right before a sleet/snow storm. The tires work great, you can tell there not summer tires, but for snow tires,i think they are really nice. They still have a firm and stable ride, but are a little less bumpy than the oem summer tires.I am exicited in the possibility, these tires will last around 50,000 miles. So i will be using them, about 6 months out of the year.We get alot of weather in minnesota. These are perfect tires for a performance orientated tire in winter.(nov-april).
I also purchased a set of replica wheels from victoriawheels.com,they are style 162's 17"x8",there great wheels for the money.
thanks for all your help
