Where can i find a DVD system that will fit into my electric Head Rests. The dealer has been telling me for 5 months now that they are trying to "figure out" :tsk: how they can add flat screens into the E65/E66 head rests because the powered head rests are more troublesome to work with. I've seen some great solutions for X5's and X3's but their head rests telescope manually. [Not to mention have more realestate to work with]

And no... I didnt care for the tiny factory installed single screen that BMW offers. :thumbdwn:

I tried to find the same custom DVD head rests since 2001 745Li. Now I am in a 750Li and the mesage is still the same... "We are working on it."

You will lhave to replace the headrest (Fully Customized) if you really want your 7" or 9" DVD headrest player. Don't know what it does to the warranty but it can be done like anything for a fee.

If you decide to go down that path, make sure you get a warranty for minimum 3 years to support any issues or defects. Do your home work my friend because in the end it is not worth it IMO.

I gave in and bought BMW entertainment system and it is not bad at all. I resisted for a while but the size is fine and my kids love it!

Is there any way we can have television in the vehicle?

Do you mean like DVD/TV in the front interface (Driver area)?
Not worth it unless you are keeping it for the long run. IMO

If you really want something, get it customized.

There is a very inexpensive way to get a DVD in the 7 series.

Buy a 10" portable DVD player for $200 and put velcro on the bottom, put the other side of the velcro on the middle section step and you will have an amazing system that is removable and reversible. I did it and my kids love it, the screen is a little lower than I would prefer it, but not a problem if the screen is tilted towards the passengers. Try it it works great, it sure beats the $2200 dealer entertainment system.

Guys

Thanks for the response. Now the question is can i retro fit the BMW Entertainment system into my 2006? I know you can add SAT radio, but wouldnt they need to rip out my rear arm rest to replace that with a new one that had a second idrive. ARGH!

I think i should do something i saw on a westcoast customs website. Now its not exactly head rest but sweeter in concept if you ask me...

Take a look...

I, too, have been looking at getting a DVD player installed in my 2002 745i. I received a quote from a local company to do what West Coast Customs did for $2,500. Anyone have any other suggestions for installation ideas or would the consensus be that $2,500 is basically what I'm going to pay for any type of installation?

yes, it is standard in europe - you can watch tv in idrive while parked. to get it in USA three things need to happen:

1) make sur that over-the-air TV has same freqs here and in europe
2) order TV antenna/tuner:

3) buddy up to a tech at your dealership to install it and load up proper modules for it.

 Try This: It intergrates with the onboard OEM nav. The GNET_BMW7 is an easy to install, plug and play video module that will allow you to add any NTSC / PAL composite source to your OEM GPS navigation LCD display screen. Our module works as long as you have the factory screen installed in your vehicle, regardless as to whether or not you have the nav option. The GNET_BMW7 features dual video inputs, one of which can be activated automatically when shifting the vehicle into reverse (usually used with a back-up camera).
