I don't know how many people here will appreciate this (or even care) but I own a 7.3L Ford Diesel, and these new diesel motors are nothing short of impressive.

Banks is building a race truck based off the Chevy Duramax diesel motor... Twin Turbo @ 40+psi, 16qt dry-sump oil system, 500lb-ft of torque available @2,000rpm and 650hp/800lb-ft @5,000rpm. Sidewinder TypeR (http://www.bankspower.com/DmaxTypeR.cfm)

I can't imagine what this would sound like at 5,000rpm :yummy:

This 320d won the 24 hours Nurburgring in 1998 :)

I'm glad you agree!!

I don't think many people are really educated on the capability and the potential diesel motors have. For example, my 7.3, with a little bit of work, could easily (and safely) push 700+lb-ft of torque, tow like a champ, and still last at least 400k miles with very few (if any) problems. I leave my truck idling in 115 degree weather at the lake without a hint of it wanting to overheat, I can push 20mpg on the highway, and it will really take all the abuse I can dish out.

Between my Powerstroke diesel, which sees its max torque at somes cars idle speed (well, a bit of an exxageratio, haha), and my high-reving s54 BMW, I think I am set :D

Diesels are the way to go. I just saw that there 8 engine options on an E60 in europe with 3 of them being diesels. We need the hot rod 535d over here with a Banks 6-Gun pumping out about 360 hp and 650 lb/ft of torque. Then race a 550i and see who wins. I have MB 300TD turbodiesel and it is great. It doesnt get the greatest mileage, bout 27, but it is better than my bimmer. It has 165k miles and is still going strong. I was actually thinking about buying a Jetta TDI before I got my 5er, but they are too hard to find with the gas prices so high now.

Now, four:

520d
525d
530d
535d

Rumours persist that the 745d's V8 will make into the 5er, but that would give it the weight distribution of an Audi, so... not going to happen :)

There are still more petrol versions than diesels (5 vs 4, not including M), but I suspect this will be the last time to be the case.

Will there be an E91 335d? :dunno:
