View Full Version : JonM, how much did you pay for the new differential?

I figure this might be interesting for the rest of us. If it's "affordable" (nothing like the $2,000 Dinan charges for a NONE Limited Slip Diff) I might explore swapping out the diff on an E46 for a Z3 diff, or pool some resources to get this done as an experiment?

Retail on a new (rebuilt, from BMW) Z3 diff is $2200.

I paid $800 for mine.

Don't ask how, I won't tell, and no, I cannot get another at that price. South motors will do 25% off retail and they have a lot of experience with shipping diffs (hint: it is easy to screw up shipping and damage them).

The affordable way to do this is remove your diff and send it to MetricMechanic (http://www.metricmechanic.com/), have them rebuild it to your specs (ratio, torque bias, clutch pack, everything). Another Z3 person went this route.

Yeah, I read some of Ron Styger's comment regarding his diff upgrade saga...Thanks for the heads up.

Looks like it WILL be a trip to the salvage yards. :dunno:
