I am looking into getting a new M3 as I am about to graduate. However I am not too familiar with them. For starters I didnt think they were making an 06. How much do these usually go for new? The only option I would really want is the Competition package and I would want it to be 6spd. Also how long would it take to get if you order one. I would appreciate any help and thanks in advance.

If you order one it will take about 2 months before you get it. Try bmwusa.com, also check autotrader.com, if you can find a good deal on a slightly used 05 you'll save a few thousand in depreciation.
Yes they are making an 06 M3.
But the '06 M3 will only be available for half a production year, after which there will be no more. If you want to get a new one, don't wait too long.

06 M3 coupe will be made into May 06. That is shorter than the usual August end of a model year.
06 M3 convertible will be made into August 06.
These are similar timelines as to when the E36M3 coupe and convertible stopped their production runs before the E46 coupes began, and then the E46 M3s began.

I don't know the last day you can order, but I've heard it's March '06. Here's the time-line for my order. By the way, the OC website seems to be a little behind. I've had my car for a week and it still says 'at vpc'.
Time line for my M3.
July 20 - Started looking for 2005 M3 ZCP MT6, with little success.
August 24th - Placed order for 2006 M3 ZCP & received production number for 40th week.
September 21st - "Scheduled for production", VIN number assigned.
October 3rd - production finished.
October 6th - "Awaiting Transport", given "about six weeks" eta from dealer.
October 16th - "Enroute" update from Owners Circle website. Actual ETD, Oct. 13th.
October 20th - Dealer updates eta to VPC, says November 9th. Delivery eta Nov. 18th.
November 6th - Car arrives in port, Oxnard CA.
November 9th - Arrived at VPC, OC website still says 'en route'.
November 10th - Dealer calls, says car may arrive today. Asks if I can take delivery on the 11th.
November 11th - Delivered to Dealership, OC wesite updates to 'At VPC'.
November 11th - Took delivery of 2006 Sliver Grey M3 ZCP MT6 with 8 miles on the clock.
Still grinning like a mental patient.

Like yourself, I decided to pick one up when I graduated a year ago December. However, not much was left on the lots that time of year short of ordering a new one. Low and behold I found a brand new 2004 just how I wanted it in the Chicago area. Given it was an 04 and the dealers were makin way for the 05's I picked it up for a whopping $6300 off MSRP! The blue book on the car is actually still about 1500 more than what I paid for the it! So if I were you I would search high and low for a new 05 that the dealers are desperate to get rid of before the 06's show up.

Come on maybe your wording isn't exactly accurate, "desperate to get rid of". Although they would certainly like to move 05 models desperate usually doesn't amount to $6300 off msrp for M3's. You got a great deal. Not sure many are going to come across that kind of deal.

I just took delivery of my 06 M3 but with some effort. Seems that several of the FL dealers were not aware that these cars were available. Technically, the 06 M3 are not being regularly produced but are special order vehicles. They can be ordered but some dealers may not know this.
