I am about to order a 650 convertible. (I currently have a 545).
- Color. I think I am going with Titanium/Cream with Dark Burch Wood. I have not been able to find a car near me that has this interior combination. Does anybody have any pics of the cream interior with dark burch wood? Or even pics of a black interior with the dark burch wood would be ok.
- Am I crazy to get cream in terms of mainentance? (I love the way it looks).
- I am getting Sport, Logic 7, Cold Weather, and Sirius. I am not planning on getting Active Steering or HUD, but I would welcome any comments or suggestions about each of these.
I have a 2004 645Ci with cream interior and Ruthenium trim. I have about 12,500 miles on it and it looks new. As long as you maintain it, you should be fine. The interior of mine looks great, it is clean, simple and doen't have a mark on it. But like anything else, including the car, it comes down to what YOU want. If you are rough on the car, the seats, dash and trim will all show it over time.
Not crazy about the cream leather, to light for my taste.
If you get it, definately get the dark birch, the light birch just does not do it for me.
Remember the door panels will be cream too. Subjected to dirty hands, scuffs, etc. If this is your secondary car, you should be ok. If this is your primary car, I would get black leather.
I wish they offered the grey leather when I bought mine. :dunno:
I think Malibu is going to replace his light birch for the dark.
Warm Pre-Welcome to the 6er family. The offical one will come when you order.
Get everything except the Active Cruise Control. Unless you are a long distance driver, then it may come in some good use for 2200 bucs.
Do not get SMG unless you are a performace driver. If you seek the plush feel for gear shifting, get and Automatic aka slushbox.
Sport package is a must. Like American Express, Don't leave home without it!
Creme is awesome but the red is not bad... Black, ehhh, this color doesn't float my boat but the choice is yours. Recommendation for Creme Leather; clean it after a any highway drive. You will thank me at the end of the week when you decide to wash it.
The wood finish doesn't do it for me in the 6er, so I decided on the Ruth...
Regardless to what the people say, I have yet to get one single scratch.
When you get the car and take it home, wash it and give it a good wax.
When you get the car and take it home, waterproof the top. (oops) I was thinking you are buying a convertible...
No Problems with the Creme at all. Primary car (Since Feb. '05) and the kids get in from time to time. Yeah you get an occasional scuff but it washes off easy...
No reason to use the scuff issue to stop your Creme color choice but I respect your comment.
Get a convertible top that's not the same color as the rest of the car body. IMHO, it really makes any convertible car look ugly. It makes it look like the engineers forgot to put a roof on, and threw on a piece of cloth as an afterthought.
I have to agree. Not a fan of the 6 series convertible. 3 series much nicer look.
The top on the 6 looks like an after thought and it looks even worse if it is the grey top instead of black.
The grey color looks like the black top that is worn out.
Looks real nice with the top and window down.

:stupid:
I too have cream with light wood. Looks terrific. I wish I had HUD. Don't care one way or the other about the stereo system. What I have is fine. But I would also get the active steering. I drive on twisty roads and find it very helpful (possibly because I am an old man).
I am definitely going with the black top. Almost definitely going with Titanium/Cream, thought the Mineral/cream is beautiful. I think the Titanium is a little more classic, and you almost never see Titanium with Cream (whereas Tit/Black you see everywhere). Before I had my 545, I had an M3 convert, so I am used to metal instead of wood; even though the ruthenium is a little sportier, I am not crazy about it.
I will do a search on the HUD; I'm tempted to get it, but fearful it is just a wasteful $1,000 toy.
My experience with the mineral silver and cream has been that guys check it out, but women stop me to tell me how much they like it. And as good as that feels, it is still better to crank up the volume and just drive!
I also pondered long and hard on the color choices and other options(although there aren't that many choices:
650I convertible
6-speed
Sport
Cold Weather (good for convertible even in CA)
Sirius
HUD - I drove the car in Europe on ED and found this invaluable with the NAV. Definite must, not just a gee whiz.
Logic 7 - didn't even turn the sound system on in Europe - too busy speeding around.
I passed on ACC and AS.
Glad I got the 6-speed as well. I don't think the SMG, in its current state, is particularly good for everyday driving(but this is a hotly debated issue) and I am no fan of automatics.
I really like the Chateau interior. With the new black interior accents, and the dark birch, it looks quite "snazzy". Also, the Chateau will undoubtedly do better than the cream on "dirt". Black interior on a convertible - just too hot.
I have attach a picture of my car taken at the European delivery center. Generally the photos do not do justice to the Chateau. If you can see one or as I did get a swatch from the dealer it will help you see what it really looks like.
Another Chateau fan here. Very rich looking, and great alternative to those that like a darker color. I think those that go for the lighter colors are less likely to be persuaded to to go this route but it is a good alternative nonetheless. I did not let my wife in on my choices prior to delivery, but she agrees I made great selections.
I do think that most folks in a 6er are less likely to have kids in the car, less likely to eat, drink, etc and the light colors can be pretty well cared for and kept clean. But I chose for my own idea of esthetics and not for ability to keep clean or not.
The Chateau seems to be even more rare in Cabrios and NKBs really looks sharp
Too each his own. It's not a vanilla car, so you either love it or you hate it. FYI I am not crazy about the coupe but LOVE the convertible. (convertible outsells 2 to 1 and holds resale better, so I am not alone) The 3 is a nice looking convertible as well(almost bought M3 conv instead of CLK) but the 3 coupe does nothing for me. The 3 is nice but there is really NO comparison between the 3 series and the 6 series as you would expect for a car that is 50+% more expensive. However, the cup holder on the 6 is a joke, so there are exceptions.
I did black saphire with a black top and beige interior with the light wood. My CA said that most sixers with light interior go with the light wood. I too was concerned about it getting dirty, but I liked how the seats look against the black saphire. My last car was silver with charcol, which I think is another stunning combo with a black top and dark wood.
I did an ED (still waiting for redelivery) and had no idea where I was going, the NAV was a lifesaver and with the HUD there was no need to take my eyes off the road when navigating the A-Bahn (instructions and arrows are displayed in HUD).
Even if you don't use the NAV, the HUD is very cool and something you will probably use every day. If your a cheapskate like me and you aren't in the frost belt, skip the cold weather package and just get heated seats. This saves much of the $1,000 that HUD costs and I think you just give up the ski storage and heated wheel. In the winters my car will be in AZ and I don't ski, so heated seats are just fine for me.
I also did the sport package, if you like the eliptical rims, it's worth it not to hassle upgrading afterwards (if you don't like the stock rims).
I am 30 something, not an audiophile and more into beck than bach, so I did the standard stereo. To my (naive) ears it sounded just fine.
Wasn't available when my car was produced, but if it were I would get the comfort access. Another wish would be cooled seats. Maybe next time.
Whatever you choose, I am sure you will enjoy the car.
After having a 3 series convertible I opted for the coupe since the moonroof is so large. I also did not want the extra 400lbs of weight and car flexing.
The 6 is definately a beaut with the top down, a real looker.
I love the cup holder. Perhaps the best cup holder BMW has even made. Nice quality and it looks cool.
You should be able to get a good deal on the convertible in the winter. Coupes do well in the fall and winter, and cabrios in the spring and summer.
I will consider a convertible again when the 6 is redesigned with the hard top/cabrio assuming they will continue to build them. It did not make it in this time around, but with exception of the Z, this should be the last soft top for BMW in the 3 or 6 series.
