What are the pros and cons of working and living in Amarillo. I may apply for a job there.
Thanks, Pat

Colder than ice on a witches teet in the winter, hotter than the devils a-hole in the summer, it's basically a cowtown in the middle of nowhere
great place if you want to be a rancher or cowboy ...
I'm sure it's a nice place to live though  but you would definitely want to spend some time there to get the full flavor before making that move, be sure to try and eat the 72 oz steak for free while your there :eeps:
edit: moving there from Delaware will definitely be a cultural experience :p
I was in Amarillo in January of 1985, it was 20 degrees and dry as a bone (which was still warmer than it was here in CT).
Just as Team mentioned, there's a steakhouse that'll give you a 72 oz piece of meat for free if you can eat it.
I40 and a portion of route 66 runs through it.
Outside of that, I can't recall anything else about it.....

cultural experience or shock?
I had a job interview there for an internship while in law school. I feel that I can safely say that you don't want to go there.

flat, small city, hot, cold
Good trail rides and "cowboy breakfast"
It can be snowing in Amarillo and others in the state will be in the upper 80's. If you are okay with being able to look out your door and seeing Nebraska without obstruction, go for it.
I personally think that Austin is one of the better areas...not your multi-million person city (you can drive across town in 45 minutes (non-rush hour)), has hills, has flat areas, multiple area lakes and housing for all incomes. Also it has a mild climate...oh and I live there, so I'm bias.

Because Amarillo is a suburb of HELL....terrible storms in the spring, and the heat and cold have already been adequately stated....
Drove through there once, and vowed never to return....
Cheers,
Mark in Austin
