A 91 318iS. Alpinweiss, very clean. Original BBS wheels.

With most of the E30s on the road around here being either the occasional E30M3 or weathered eta cars, it felt good to see a clean, unmolested iS.

Not to speak for TD, but he would most likely prefer an E30 M3 or 325is. I would

No, Kaz is right. For me, I'd rather have the 318is.

Kaz- Was it for sale? And, yeah, most 318is examples I see are pretty well abused. It's sad.

Nate- There were some details to the '91 318is that made is a bit more desirable than a 325is, even giving up the power. One of those was the same suspension as the E30 M3. I'll have to pull the Roundel issue from a year or so ago that highlighted it.

It didn't appear to be for sale. I was driving next to it on my way out to lunch and didn't see any For Sale signs in the windows. I have a friend who's on the lookout for one to use as a track car.

You'd take it over a real M3?

If I were getting an E30, I would likely modify the suspension anyway...

Considering a clean 318is is ~$4-5K and a clean M3 is $13-15K, HELL YES.

I intended no such implications in my original post.

But my personal 'Dream E30' would be a sedan bodyshell on a M. :D

M3s are not the end all be all cars. I would still take my 323Ci over my friend's CB M3 anyday.

The E30 M3 may be one of the greatest BMWs ever built, but it's also one of the most trouble prone cars BMW ever built. That thing was a mechanical marvel as well as a mechanic's nightmare since it's so damn high strung and sprung.

Shouldn't this be discussed in the DIY forum? :lmao:

Not that it matters, but I inferred it to mean the car that would most perfectly fit the description of the car I'm on the lookout for.

And it is that.

Cost no object... Give me a '98 911 Carerra 2.
