I saw this posted on E46 Fanatics web site:

"Has anyone tried to get bmw to upgrade their ULF module to the latest version? I have the 552, and I understand being on the cutting edge getting burned when the product is updated. However, there have been 5 generations, each generation lasting less than ~6 months max...

PART numbers for the Bluetooth ULF FROM BMW ETK
84 21 6 934 552 end of life 06/03 1st generation
84 21 6 938 610 end of life 10/03 2nd generation
84 21 6 934 961 end of life 03/04 3rd generation
84 21 6 950 089 end of life 06/04 4th generation
84 21 6 945 387 Present Generation"
end of quote.

Yet, when I just ordered my kit from the dealer they said the computer only showed the 2nd generation (610) being available. Does BMW upgrade firmware when then ship these? None of the others came up as being available. I have an 04 325Ci with no assist. I just want to make sure it will work with my Palm Treo 650.

I am trying to find out the same exact thing (see my other post submitted Dec. 14).

From what I've gathered there possibly are up to 7 different ULF modules, and I cannot find anywhere what the practical difference is between any of them.

The models are:

Bluetooth Module:
84 21 6 934 552 end of life 06/03 1st generation
84 21 6 938 610 end of life 10/03 2nd generation
84 21 6 934 961 end of life 03/04 3rd generation
84 21 6 950 089 end of life 06/04 4th generation
84 21 6 945 387 end of life 11/04 5th generation
84 21 6 955 522 end of life 04/05 6th generation
84 10 6 969 268 7th generation

Do I try to return/sell the #552 module that I bought and seek out a newer version?

Is the version I have upgradeable (software flash)? If so, how?

What is the benefits of the newer generation models? For example, will the #552 module work for most purposes? Does a new feature (such as voice recognition) get introduced only after a certain generation?

Is there any resource to find this information (BMW tech bulletins and such)?

Any help here would be much appreciated.
