Tried it today on the M5.

Couldn't get it to work.

And yes, I RTFM.

For the M3 the procedure is:

1) Disable DSC
2) Max out Drivelogic
3) Push and hold shifter forward
4) Floor accelerator (rpms hold at approx 5k but car doesn't move)
5) Release shifter
6) Wheeeeeeee!

I'd get to step 4 and the car would eagerly lurch forward.

Anyone know what the deal is :dunno:

There is no launch control on US models.

What they do have is a cheap version. You can get engine to rev to between 1600-1800 rpm's, let the gear lever go, and the car will go, but it will not self shift, etc...

Most likely due to US restrictions and potential litigation issues.

Try this:

Left foot on brake, stick in neutral, rev engine up to ~4,000 RPM. Tap lever into first and drop foot off brake at nearly the same time and the car should take off like a bat out of hell.

That's how they "launch" Z4s with SMG with good time.

Want me to show you how to do it? :D

Again, the US spec'd M5's DO NOT have LC. They have a detuned version that will only let you rev to 16-1800 rpm's, and no launch control self shifting. The euro version has the full business, 4,000 rpm, drops in, goes and shifts through gears for you as long as you don't release foot from the floor.

Again, NO US launch control, by defintion.

Absolutely!

As long as it's your M5 :D

The M3 will not let you "neutral drop." I suspect the M5 won't, either.

So what you're saying is that you need to find the right person to 'reprogram' your m5's LC to euro spec? Would that be the same person to "delimit" your engine pull at a certain speed?
