Congrats, looks identical to mine, except I have the black leather.

Also, the wheels are nice, easy to keep clean.

Dealer took $3,500 off MSRP for the windshield issue. Plus, I got them to throw in a new set of black carpet floormat. Since the dash material is black (in 650i), these floor mats really compliment the interior.

Did it come with beige floor mats and they gave you a second set in black? Looks great!

Yup, came with the beige OEM mats, but I got them to throw in an extra set (for all the troubles that I went through).

Pretty car! The only downside remaining is getting the 1200 miles on it so you can do some honking!
Many happy miles!

Beautiful!! Now I know what mine is going to look like except I ordered the black interior. I did the same thing with the grey interior on my 540. I ordered it with black floor mats and when it showed up without, they swapped them out for me).

Does anyone know anyone who has had a 6er delivered without the Sport package?

I have only seen one.

A silver/beige 04 645 with a manual at the dealer CPO lot. took a few months but they sold it a few weeks ago.

A side note, went out to dinner last night and saw a new M5 with the tidy bowl blue color (not sure of the exact name). Not my fav color, and it was all scratched up from what appeared to be not so soft car drying towels.

very very nice color combo. Looks excelent with the contrasting light color interior.....

Just curious why did you not and so few people order this with SMG? I mean for no extra $$$ why didnt you get the option of F1 driving? If you look on ebay even the resale for SMG cars are like $4K higher....Even if was only to have the sweet paddle shifters up on the wheel.

I couldnt imagine not checking the SMG box if I were ordering a new car and If I did'nt want a stick.

Did you even consider it?

While I don't think the cost would deter anyone from ordering SMG, it is not cost-free. The feds slap on a $1300 (or is it $1700) gas guzzler tax on SMG and also a tax on the manual shift. Only the Steptronic isn't taxed.

How can that be?

The namual has got to get better mileage than the Auto if its right on the bubble

Nope. The manual gets driven more sprightly. Most Steptronic drivers are assumed to keep sport off (remember, the default is off) and not use the manual shifting column, either. So the 6er just lopes along with Steptronic. At least, that's what BMW sold to the Feds!

I mean one MPG here or there and it fails or passes....interesting.

And are you sure the gas ratings are based on a preassumed driver type and habit based on transmission type and not some fixed, controlled, method?

This seems very awkward, loosly based on whether one is likely to have the sport butto n depressed...hmmmm

Look at the circumstantial evidence and decide. With a manual the Feds assume you will be shifting; otherwise you'd be driving around only in 1st (or maybe 2nd). And most BMW MT drivers don't shift at lazy 2000 RPM shift points. The SMG is similar to the manual; it requires a manual shift without the clutch pedal. Steptronic shifts at around 2000 RPM unless you are in Sport mode, where the profile is more sprightly, or when you shift it yourself. Put all of this together and add the fact that the manual and SMG incur the gas guzzler tax. What does that tell you?

Just look at an E46 M3 with SMG, 16MPG city and the guzzler tax rears its ugly head again.

Potentially manuals should get better mileage, but they seldom do unless you drive a manual as efficiently as an auto which most folks don't.

The SMG does seem very cool and I am an easy mark for gee wiz gizmos, but I had heard that it isn't ready for prime time yet. Not horable, but not what you would expect in this car and not suposed to work as well as SMG on the M's.

Have you ever bought something assuming it would work right and it just didn't. It doesn't bother me too much when it's a $50 computer program or a $400 PDA, but on an $80K+ car I wasn't going to take that chance. I plan on this being my everyday car, so a stick isn't practical and with an automatic you can't go wrong.

if I've heard less than glowing PR on the 6er SMG (whether true or not) you can be sure others have as well and this can't be good for the resale on 6ers with SMG. JMHO. In a few years the SMG may be great, but for right now stick with the step or the stick.

Ditto, I will consider SMG when the dual-clutch feature is available as in the Audis.

Although folks seems to be happy with the current incarnation, I know I would not be.

I think the only reason the M6 has 7 gears was for marketing, they did not have the next generation SMG ready in time. I would suspect with a few model years the M6 will get the new tranny.

I actually did consider SMG when I ordered it. When the order was placed, I had SMG as the choice of transmission. But when I took my wife back for a test drive on another 650i with SMG, she test drove it in Automatic mode and the car was jerking and hiccing up so I didn't get the nod I needed. So I went with Step and everyone was happy :)

Two points:

Resell value is lower on these.

Even if it had the SMG version from the M3, I would have bought a manual. But the 6er version was disappointing on my test drive.

Maybe I'll go clutchless for my next car, or probably not since its not offered on the AMV8 for now.

I like your steering wheel better than the stock. You must have a heated steering wheel? :dunno:

I noticed you have leather seams at 10 and 2 o'clock which the stock wheel does not have. In addition, your leather looks nicer.

Mine looks and feels like sand paper. I suppose its for the grip as someone mentioned in another post. But if that is the case, why doesn't your wheel have the same leather? :dunno:

It's the standard wheel for the sport package. I read somewhere that the sport steering wheel is fatter than the non-sport one. It's same size as the heated steering wheel. I also notice that the leather is a little smoother than the demo 650i I drove a while back. Don't know why this is the case.

Ah, they must have changed the wheel for the 650's then, since I have the sport package on my 645.

My sport package 645Ci vert has the same wheels.

Nice color combination.
