My 323 has a sports (3 spoke) steering wheel which makes a high pitched squeek/squeel sound when you turn it. It has been happening since I bought the car in May this year and is quite annoying. I have put up with it as the car has had numerous other problems that have needed fixing and this is the last one I hope. I have tried silicone spray & CRC, but to no avail. Does anyone know what would cause this problem and how to fix?

My 1996 328i has the same issue -- it is related to the air-bag connectors (there are 2 medal contact plates that rub... silicon will do nothing for this because it is incased) this more then likely could be your issue. If your car is NEW it should be covered... if not it is not much to replace... I know it is annoying however.

Hi & thanks for your reply. I took the car to the local BMW service agent who said much the same. He has ordered the encased bearing today. He said that it has been a long term problem from all the grease and stuff in the assembly. It will take a bit of time to fix as they need to remove the airbag etc, but shouldn't cost too much hopefully. I can't wait to lose the squeek ! :bigpimp:
