I just saw my first M5 on the road in Rhode Island the other day. First of all, it was freezing raining out, which I was surprised to see the new owner driving his brand new M5 in, and the car was already covered in snow, ice, and salt... That said, here were my general impressions...
1 - First, appearance-wise, I was surprised the car didn't strike me as aggressive in person as I expected. Part of this is because it was a grey colored car against a grey day, covered in grey snow, salt, and ice. Still, I had to look twice at it to make sure it was an M5. The wheels are absolutely gorgeous, I must say. The rest of the body alterations on the car didn't make as big an impact in the wild as I would have guessed looking at photos...
2 - The sound of that engine has haunted my dreams ever since I saw it. I mean, WOW! I won't even try to describe it. It's the first 10 cylinder engine I've ever heard, and I want to hear it again!
3 - I got a glimpse of the interior, and the materials definitely did seem a step up from the standard 5 series.
I'd love to see a more vibrant colored model, on a different day, with some tinted out windows before making an additional judgement...
- Garris
PS: I also saw my first CTS-V in the wild on the exact same day, and I have to say, I was pretty surprised. Its upgrades really do change its appearance from the standard CTS. The metal mesh grille is goregeous. Too bad about that interior...
